Public broadcasting audiences in Memphis soon will have access to a new fountain of information about the mortgage crisis that will span TV, radio, the Internet and the printed page.
Next month, the local public television station whose call letters stand for “Window of Knowledge” will kick off “Facing the Mortgage Crisis.” And WKNO is launching the project with the same mission implied in the station’s name.

Ken Burns' PBS documentary "The Civil War," seen by some 40 million viewers during its 1990 broadcast, made a celebrity out of Shelby Foote.
The Memphis scribe and historian, who lived in a Tudor-style house in Midtown before he died in 2005, was one of the commentators interviewed for the series. It helped that he looked the part, with his closely cropped gray beard and dignified drawl.

WKNO officials are eyeing a site in East Memphis as a possibility for relocating the station's studio and offices.
