Midtown’s Kroger on Union Avenue is less than two years old, but the company already plans a $460,000 renovation to its deli.

The reason: Kroger will renovate space at the deli for The Chicken Co.

2. Kroger Spends Millions to Permanently Cut Prices in Memphis and Beyond -

Kroger has made a “multimillion-dollar investment” to permanently cut prices on more than 3,000 products in its grocery stores across Memphis and its multistate Delta Division.

Shoppers will be met with oversized signage announcing the price cuts almost anywhere they turn inside Memphis-area Kroger stores. That includes messaging that completely covers the entrances that shoppers walk through at locations like the Kroger at 1675 N. Germantown Parkway, where a bright yellow image of a few grocery items and the announcement “Say Hello To Lower Prices” covers the doors.

Grocery stores in Memphis are in a scramble to refashion the shopping experience they present to customers, via everything from digital services like pre-order and scheduled pickups to mall-like amenities inside the stores themselves.

4. Kroger Brings Online Ordering to More Memphis-Area Locations -

Kroger suspected there was plenty of demand in the Memphis market for the online ordering system the grocery chain has been rolling out in recent weeks.

When the company brought ClickList to the first Memphis-area store last month, Kroger executives saw firsthand. They don’t have exact numbers to share, but Kroger confirmed that the launch of its ClickList online system at the first area Kroger – in Germantown at 7735 Farmington Blvd. – generated the most opening week orders for any store in the entire chain.

In advance of its lease expiration in May, Kroger Delta Division is closing its store at 576 S. Perkins Road on March 26, the company announced Tuesday, March 1.

17. Rescuers Pray for No More Victims in Tenn. Floods -

NASHVILLE (AP) — The dark waters of the Cumberland River slowly started to ebb Tuesday as residents who frantically fled the deadly flash floods returned home to find mud-caked floors and soggy furniture. Rescuers prayed they would not find more bodies as the floodwaters receded.
