LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) – The Arkansas Supreme Court ruled Thursday that the state prison system must continue to identify the manufacturers of its execution drugs but can conceal information that could be used to identify those who obtain the drugs for the state.

12. Redistricting Comes Just in Time for Filing Deadline -

Contenders for the 13 seats on the Memphis City Council got some certainty this week with council approval of the new set of district lines for the body.

And it could make the noon Thursday, July 21, qualifying deadline something that hasn’t been seen in many election cycles – a deadline with some last-minute candidates and plenty of politicos watching the last-minute developments.

Any time a patient hugs me or shakes my hand and tells me how much they appreciate my efforts is the greatest feeling.

Two vacancies in the western divisions of two state appeals courts have drawn a lot of interest from attorneys and judges in West Tennessee.

A total of 14 applicants filed with the Tennessee Judicial Selection Commission for both vacancies by Friday’s deadline.

20. Social Web Site Connects Lawyers Near and Far -

The founder of a new, free, online social Web site wants to connect attorneys from one end of the country to the other.

Oakland, Calif.-based civil attorney Steven Choi last month founded Lawlink.com, the online social network for attorneys. It already has more than 1,000 Tennessee lawyers, and more than 1,500 nationwide have signed up on the site. Choi said he anticipates those numbers will pick up once more attorneys become aware the site is available.

Memphis Biofuels LLC has filed suit in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Tennessee against U.S. Alternative Fuels LLC, according to The Daily News Online, www.memphisdailynews.com.

Gale Jones Carson has been named director of corporate communications for Memphis Light, Gas & Water Division. In her new executive-level position, she will report directly to MLGW president and CEO Joseph Lee III. She previously was executive assistant to Memphis Mayor Willie Herenton.

The Shelby County Election Commission voted 3-1 this week to recommend technology giant Diebold Inc. for the contract to purchase between 1,300 and 1,500 new voting machines in time for the August 2006 primary election.

Keith Morris of 4M Land Co. in Somerville was honored with the 2005 Land Realtor of America award by the Realtors Land Institute. Morris, current president of the Tennesseen RLI chapter, is the first Tennessean to receive the award. He graduated from the University of Memphis.
