1. Supreme Court Makes Sports Betting a Possibility Nationwide -

WASHINGTON (AP) – The Supreme Court on Monday gave its go-ahead for states to allow gambling on sports across the nation, striking down a federal law that barred betting on football, basketball, baseball and other sports in most states.

2. Few Teeth in Trump's Prescription to Reduce Drug Prices -

WASHINGTON (AP) – President Donald Trump's long-promised plan to bring down drug prices, unveiled Friday, would mostly spare the pharmaceutical industry he previously accused of "getting away with murder." Instead he focuses on private competition and more openness to reduce America's prescription pain.

3. You Gotta Have Heart: UT’s 2017 Recruiting Class -

Butch Jones did it again. The Tennessee football coach gave opponents press conference fodder with another one-liner while putting his spin on the Vols’ 2017 signing class.

It happened a day after the Feb. 1 National Signing Day when UT’s class was rated No. 17 nationally in the 247Sports composite rankings.

4. U of M to Award Teaching, Research -

The University of Memphis Faculty Convocation luncheon will be held Friday, April 29, at noon in the University Center Fountain View Suite. The 2016 awards and honorees are:

• Willard R. Sparks Eminent Faculty Award – Dr. Roy Van Arsdale, Department of Earth Sciences. The Eminent Faculty Award is presented by the Board of Visitors to an individual who has made exceptional and sustained contributions to scholarly achievement, teaching and service, bringing honor and recognition to the university. This is the highest distinction given to a faculty member by the university.

5. Fairgrounds’ Future -

It’s hard to imagine that a 65,000-seat stadium could be overlooked. Perhaps it’s because the Liberty Bowl wasn’t in the center of the Mid-South Fairgrounds when the stadium was built in 1965; it was on the eastern side of 155 acres of city-owned land, with a rail spur running along its eastern boundary.

6. Supreme Court Upholds Use of Controversial Execution Drug -

WASHINGTON (AP) – Trading sharp words, a deeply divided Supreme Court upheld the use of a controversial drug in lethal-injection executions Monday, even as two dissenting justices said for the first time they think it's "highly likely" the death penalty itself is unconstitutional.

9. ULI Fairgrounds Panel Has Busy Schedule -

A team of eight out-of-town planning experts has a busy week ahead as it wades into the simmering local debate about plans to recast the Mid-South Fairgrounds.

And the first hard copy of something the Urban Land Institute-assembled group is likely to get are the comments from four town hall meetings held in different parts of Memphis over two evenings last week.

10. Spillyards Leads Community Advisors Launch -

Greg Spillyards has joined the brokerage team at Cushman & Wakefield/Commercial Advisors to launch the firm’s Community Advisors service line.

Community Advisors is focused on the Memphis city core, with a goal to provide real estate advisory services to assist in the revitalization of the city’s underserved areas with passion, creativity and entrepreneurship, and with service to those already living and leading in their neighborhoods.

11. Events -

Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Memphis will host An Evening With Fred Davis Tuesday, Feb. 11, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the organization’s Technical Training Center, 903 Walker Ave. Davis is a business leader who also served on the first Memphis City Council under the mayor-council form of government in 1967. 12. Occupy Protests Cost Nation's Cities at Least $13M -

NEW YORK (AP) – During the first two months of the nationwide Occupy protests, the movement that is demanding more out of the wealthiest Americans cost local taxpayers at least $13 million in police overtime and other municipal services, according to a survey by The Associated Press.

What drew you to CBU?
The opportunity to be on an active enrollment management team. I was impressed with the commitments the school had made in the enrollment area. Most of all, I was pleased to return to a church-related university.
What will your role as vice president of enrollment management entail?
I am responsible for leading enrollment management initiatives and overseeing the undergraduate enrollment office, the office of financial aid and the career services office.
What do you consider your greatest professional accomplishments?
Creating an atmosphere for successful recruitment at High Point University that also attracted students to on-campus living.
What do you most enjoy about your work?
I enjoy the opportunity to set up enrollment systems that engage students with the university. I also enjoy monitoring the success of the admissions recruitment cycle from the initial contact to the student’s first day on campus.

14. Earnings Reports to Give Picture of Job Market -

NEW YORK (AP) - Wall Street may be roaring again and manufacturers see a bright future selling their wares in Asia. But for many Americans, it's still a downturn until the jobs come back.

This week, earnings from several companies with deep ties to corporate payrolls, consumer demand and the labor market will show whether employers are hiring, firing or holding off on filling vacancies.

15. Ike’s Plans Expansion to Collierville -

A 10,000-square-foot Ike’s drugstore is coming to West Poplar Avenue in Collierville now that the Arkansas-based company that owns and operates the chain has bought the land and announced plans to begin building after the start of the new year.

16. UTHSC College of Medicine Names Smith Interim Dean -

J. Lacey Smith has been named interim dean for the College of Medicine at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center.

Smith currently serves as the associate dean of clinical affairs for the College of Medicine and the chief medical officer and executive vice president for UT Medical Group Inc.
