3. FedEx CEO Fred Smith Honored by Ad Council -

FedEx chairman and CEO Fred Smith will be honored later this year at the 61st Annual Public Service Award Dinner of the Ad Council.

The event, to be held Nov. 19 in New York City, will be hosted by comedian Stephen Colbert. Smith will be presented with this year’s public service award in recognition of his personal and corporate commitment to philanthropy.

4. Memphis Repertory Orchestra Plans Summer Concert -

For the first time in its three-year history, the Memphis Repertory Orchestra will perform a world premiere piece at a special summer concert July 12.

The free performance will take place at 8 pm. at the Buckman Performing Arts Center.

5. Magna Bank Hires Three -

Magna Bank has made three customer-facing hires, including the addition of a new vice president.

Jodi Scruggs, who has more than 12 years of banking experience, has been tapped as vice president and private banking officer, and as such, she’ll work to build relationships with new and existing Magna clients, among other things.

6. Library Expands Digital Audiobook Selection -

Memphis Public Library and Information Center customers now have access to more digital audiobooks through OneClick Digital, one of the library’s newest online resources for customers on the go.

7. Legacy Wealth Management Adds Three Staff Members -

Legacy Wealth Management has added a few professionals to its ranks.

Brent Westbrook has joined Legacy as managing director of business development and client service. Westbrook came to Legacy from Argent Financial Group and introduces Legacy’s services to individuals, families and business-sponsored retirement plans.

8. Iberiabank Promotes 2 Memphis Associates -

Iberiabank has promoted two associates in Memphis.

Stephen Fitzsimmons is the new branch manager at Iberiabank’s Germantown branch, 7465 Poplar Ave. He has seven years of banking experience, and is a licensed attorney and an active member of the Memphis Bar Association.

9. Gary Sinise & Lt. Dan Band to Play Memphis Benefit -

Gary Sinise & the Lt. Dan Band will be in Memphis in November.

The Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation and the Gary Sinise Foundation are teaming up to host a benefit concert Nov. 1 at 7 p.m. in honor of Marine Cpl. Christian “CB” Brown. The concert featuring Gary Sinise, well-known for his role in “Forrest Gump” as Lt. Dan, and his band will be held at the Memphis Cook Convention Center and will launch “Operation CB,” an effort to raise money to build Brown a “smart home” in Munford.

10. Hall Joins Wyatt Tarrant's Intellectual Property Team -

Stephen Hall has joined Wyatt, Tarrant & Combs LLP as a member of the law firm’s intellectual property protection and litigation team.

11. Stanley Named to Economic Council on Women -

Tennessee Lt. Gov. Ron Ramsey has announced the appointment of Kristi Pruitt Stanley to the Tennessee Economic Council on Women.

12. Two Memphis Law Firms Combine Forces -

Two Memphis law firms announced a merger earlier this week.

The nine attorneys of 45-year old Williams McDaniel PC are merging with Wyatt, Tarrant & Combs LLP to form one of the largest estate planning law groups among regional firms in the country.

13. Law Institute Will Examine Scandals Involving Children -

The 25th annual Rhodes Institute on the Profession of Law this year will discuss “Beyond the Church and Penn State Scandals: Protecting our clients while protecting our children.”

The program will provide an overview of the civil liability faced by organizations when child sexual abuse accusations surface. It will examine recent cases involving religious groups, educational institutions and businesses. The program will also look at when allegations rise to the level requiring attention from law enforcement, among other issues.

14. LaBelle Kicks Off Baptist’s Centennial -

Legendary recording artist Patti LaBelle was in Memphis Thursday, Dec. 8, to help kick off Baptist Memorial Health Care Corp.’s yearlong centennial celebration with a fundraiser for its new comprehensive cancer care center.

J. Anthony Bradley has been named for the third consecutive year to the Mid-South Super Lawyers for estate planning and probate practice areas.

16. Summit Asset President Rhea Wins WKNO Service Award -

WKNO Public Broadcasting has awarded its Julian Bondurant Distinguished Service Award to Stephen Rhea, the co-president and financial adviser at Summit Asset Management LLC in Memphis.
