1. Five Below Store Coming to Bartlett Towne Center -

A store that’s hot in the market for selling “hot,’’ trendy products for $5 or less to teens and tweens is coming to Bartlett.

Five Below has signed a lease for 8,680 square feet in Bartlett Towne Center at the southeast corner of Stage and Bartlett Boulevard, according to the Memphis office of The Shopping Center Group.

2. Discount Home Goods Store Joins Retail Center -

The first Home Centric in the market, a discount home goods store owned by Beall’s Inc., is on its way to Shops of Forest Hill in Germantown.

The 14,400-square-foot retailer will be located next to Sprouts Farmers Market in the Target-anchored shopping center at the corner of Poplar Avenue and Forest Hill-Irene Road.

5. Three New Deals for Collierville Shopping Center -

The Shops of Collierville at Houston Levee is now 100 percent occupied following three new deals recently inked.

The Joint chiropractic clinic will take the 1,695-square-foot bay at 3592 South Houston Levee Road. Eric Furhman with Crye Leike represented the tenant.

6. Papa Murphy’s Adds Four New Locations -

Take-and-bake pizza chain Papa Murphy’s has doubled its presence in the Memphis-area with four recently inked leases.

It is a new tenant at The Pointe shopping center in Cordova, taking up a 1,600-square-foot space at 465 North Germantown Parkway.

9. Fino’s Taking a Bite Out of East Memphis -

The Brookhaven Circle area, an emerging restaurant row in the heart of East Memphis, is welcoming a new neighbor.

Jerry Wilson, owner of Fino’s from the Hill at 1853 Madison Ave. in Midtown, has acquired the property at 703 W. Brookhaven Circle in East Memphis for $526,600.

11. Rodgers Takes Reins at Collierville Chamber -

Kanette Keough-Rodgers recently took over as president/CEO of the Collierville Chamber of Commerce after the chamber’s transition team selected her from more than 170 candidates.

In her new role, Rodgers is responsible for retaining and expanding chamber membership by ensuring members receive relevant, responsive and timely services, initiatives, programs and events. She is also responsible for forging and sustaining relationships with community, government and educational institutions.

12. TGI Fridays Franchisee Buys 3 Local Restaurants -

A New Orleans-based restaurant group has acquired three local TGI Fridays restaurants.

Southeast Restaurant Group bought the restaurants at 8325 U.S. 64, 7733 Winchester Road and 176 Goodman Road in Southaven, part of a broader 20-restaurant deal.

13. Developer Tries Again for Highland McDonald’s -

The developer behind a proposed McDonald’s on Highland Avenue near the University of Memphis is making another attempt at the project.

According to the most current site plan, the 5,353-square-foot restaurant building is situated along the sidewalk on Highland and a looping drive-thru proposed earlier has been replaced with one that runs along the eastern side of the building.

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Senate on Tuesday unanimously confirmed former Procter & Gamble CEO Robert McDonald as the new Veterans Affairs secretary, with a mission to overhaul an agency beleaguered by long veterans' waits for health care and VA workers falsifying records to cover up delays.

16. IBM's Watson to Help in Brain Cancer Research -

NEW YORK (AP) – IBM is teaming up with the New York Genome Center to help fight brain cancer.

The company said Wednesday that its Watson cloud computing system will be used in partnership with a New York-based genetic research center to help develop treatments for glioblastoma, the most common type of brain cancer in U.S. adults.

17. MAAR to Hold Commercial Forecast Summit Feb. 12 -

Commercial real estate experts will share their insights this week on what to expect nationally and locally in 2014.

The Memphis Area Association of Realtors’ Commercial Council will host the 2014 Commercial Property Forecast Summit Wednesday, Feb. 12.

18. Orangetheory Fitness Signs New Lease In Stonecreek -

Orangetheory Fitness has signed a lease at Stonecreek Centre at Poplar Avenue and Forest Hill-Irene Road in Germantown.

Orangetheory Fitness will occupy 3,167 square feet at the location. Orangetheory Fitness is a workout method that is broken into intervals of cardiovascular and strength training while using heart rate monitors to keep heart rates in a targeted zone to stimulate metabolism and increases energy.

19. Olymbec Acquires 13-Building Bellbrook -

Olymbec USA LLC has snatched up two more key Memphis properties, including the 1.8 million-square-foot Bellbrook industrial park.

20. Shopping Center Group Sees Retail Starting to Rally -

The Shopping Center Group is seeing activity perk up a bit in 2013 following several years of sluggishness in the local retail market due to the recent recession.

“It is definitely a lot better than it was two to three years ago. We are busier than we were then,” said Danny Buring, managing partner of The Shopping Center Group’s Memphis office.

Gen X Clothing Inc. signed a 35,000-square-foot lease at 3252 Austin Peay Highway. The space was formerly occupied by Big Lots.

23. Former Cleo Site Sells For $2.6M -

A Memphis-based buyer has bought more than 1 million square feet formerly occupied by Cleo Inc. gift-wrapping company in Airport Industrial Park Section A for less than two-thirds of the listing price.

A high-end automobile maintenance and repair shop soon will be added to Cooper-Young’s booming portfolio of local businesses.

Shane Herbers, founder of Midtown Motor Werks, has leased 5,000 square feet at 795 S. Cooper St. from Richard Sullivan.

25. Trane Signs Lease on Tradeport Drive -

Trane U.S. Inc. has finalized its 625,000-square-foot industrial lease in Southeast Memphis after the deal process initially began in January 2011.

A 51,000-square-foot industrial building in the Southeast submarket has traded hands. JLS Enterprises LLC purchased 4021 Delp St. in Airport Industrial Park for $850,000. The warehouse currently houses Coca-Cola Enterprises Inc. and is 100 percent occupied.

31. Hacks Cross Center Sells For $1 Million -

A shopping center in the Southeast submarket has traded hands. AAK Ventures LLC acquired the 10,500-square-foot Players Crossing Retail Center, 3285 Hacks Cross Road, from BancorpSouth for $1 million.

32. MBIN Signs New Lease At Bellbrook Park -

A Memphis-based wholesaler of collectable items has signed a new industrial lease in the Southwest submarket.

MBIN Global Inc. has signed a new lease for 26,250 square feet at Bellbrook Industrial Park, 1004 Brooks Road.

33. Hickory Hill Apartments Sell for $10M -

Three apartment communities in the Hickory Hill Road/Knight Arnold Road area have sold for a combined price of $10 million.

Tommy Bronson III and Blake Pera with CB Richard Ellis Memphis’ multifamily division represented Hallmark Capital in the sale to Bellevue, Wash.-based Emerald Apartment Group. Wilson Management Inc., the managing entity behind Emerald Apartment Group, will retain and manage the properties.

Family Dollar has signed a 12,000-square-foot lease at 2754 Lamar Ave. Shawn Massey, partner with The Shopping Center Group LLC, represented the tenant. Harold Blockman with Keller Williams Realty Inc. represented the landlord, Chong K and Dul S. Pae.

Pacific Logistics Corp. has signed a lease for its first Memphis-area location, which will serve as a regional hub for the company’s growing shoe and retail business.

Conway Services Heating, Cooling & Plumbing has signed a new lease to accommodate space for its growing service team.

Conway Services is moving from 6426 Summer Gale Drive in Memphis near Bartlett to a warehouse on 1220 Big Orange Road in Cordova.

37. Pet Hospital Signs Lease at Corner Shops -

A new pet hospital is among the most recent tenants at The Corner Shops of Canada Road.

The Lakeland Pet Hospital signed a new 3,850-square-foot lease in the 32,500-square-foot center, at the northwest corner of U.S. 64 and Canada Road in Lakeland.

38. Construction On Rise in West Memphis -

One of only two retail developments on tap this year in West Memphis is on the verge of breaking ground.

Marketplace Development LLC closed last week on 3.11 acres in the shadow of Wal-Mart Super Center in West Memphis, where the group plans to build a 29,340-square-foot retail center.
