Boscos Squared will host the Boscos Cycling Patio 150, a benefit for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, Thursday, Sept. 3, starting at 5 p.m. at 2120 Madison Ave. Members of the Boscos Cycling team will ride 150 miles on stationary bikes to raise funds. NEW YORK (AP) – Packed malls? Healthy gains in holiday spending? It's beginning to look at least a little like a pre-recession Christmas.
Americans spent more on clothing, luxury goods and even furniture, delivering healthy gains across the board, according to MasterCard Advisors' SpendingPulse, which tracks spending across all transactions including cash. The online category continued to be a bright spot. The big exception was consumer electronics, dragged down by deep discounting of TVs amid a glut. That area was virtually unchanged from a year ago.

Dr. Richard W. Phillips has been named president-elect of Southern College of Optometry in Memphis. Phillips is a 1978 graduate of the college and the former regional executive director for Tennessee operations for TLC - Laser Eye Centers. He will be only the sixth person to hold the office in the college's 75-year history. Phillips will assume the presidency May 17. He is replacing William E. Cochran, who is retiring.
