Ray’s Take: It’s crazy to think that there are billons of hard-earned dollars left behind or forgotten about in dormant accounts all across the world. But with that much money left unclaimed, there are clearly many reasons accounts go dormant. Moving to another state and forgetting to close accounts is the usual culprit.

Ray’s Take: Can you explain what risk diversification is? Can you identify the effects of inflation? Do you know how to calculate interest? If you answered yes to these three questions, you are better off than 43 percent of Americans and a whopping two-thirds of the world’s population, according to Maggie McGrath in an article written for Forbes Magazine about the results from the first-ever S&P Global FinLit Survey.

3. New Memphis Promotes Dakin to Pilot ‘Launch’ Initiative -

Frankie Dakin has been promoted to director of strategic initiatives at New Memphis, a role in which he’ll pilot the organization’s new Launch: Campus to Career program. The initiative, which builds on New Memphis’ Summer Experience, connects college students with professional opportunities and networks to inspire them to launch careers in Memphis. Dakin will lead the program, encouraging area students to find and prepare for internships with local employers.

Ray’s Take: Where American patriots fought for independence, today’s Americans are often indentured servants to the tyranny of crippling debt for most of their lives. Don’t think it’s too late for you to make a change. Make a stand for your freedom starting today and make a plan to throw off the shackles of debt forever.

5. Chrysler Dealers Scramble to Unload Vehicles -

Peter J. Walsh, the owner of Walsh Dodge in Jersey City, N.J., started out selling used cars in his hometown 28 years ago after the birth of his daughter. He slowly built his business, and felt as if he'd finally made it when he earned his Chrysler shingle in 2000.

6. UTHSC's Netland Honored by American Academy of Ophthalmology -

Dr. Peter A. Netland will receive the Senior Achievement Award from the American Academy of Ophthalmology at its annual conference this fall.

Netland, a Siegal Professor of Ophthalmology at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center (UTHSC), is the director of the Glaucoma Service and vice chair for academic affairs for the UTHSC Department of Ophthalmology. He is also the site leader in Memphis for the Congressional Glaucoma Caucus.

7. FedEx Plans MajorUpgrade to Fleet -      FedEx will acquire and modify nearly 90 Boeing 757-200 planes for $2.6 billion. The multi-year program will replace the outdated narrow-body fleet of Boeing 727-200 aircraft.
