1. Fizdale: Lessons Learned in Memphis Will Help in New Job With Knicks -

It seems like a long time ago now — or maybe it doesn’t — but back in the middle of David Fizdale’s rookie season as an NBA head coach he had the Grizzlies 11 games over .500 (36-25). Back then, it seemed logical and likely that he would put down roots here.

2. Grizzlies Grabbed Accomplished College Players in NBA Draft -

When last week’s NBA Draft tipped off, the Grizzlies were outsiders with no picks. It didn’t stay that way. General manager Chris Wallace had indicated weeks earlier the Grizzlies would approach this draft as if they had picks, adding, “You don’t know what opportunities will come your way in the 11th hour.”

3. Memphis Takes Pounding in Opener With Spurs -

The Memphis Grizzlies were not alone in their unmitigated defeat. The NBA Playoffs started this past weekend and while descriptions of what happened to the Grizzlies within the shadow of the Alamo in San Antonio were colorful – “a 106-74 bludgeoning by the San Antonio Spurs” read one account at NBA.com – this was hardly an isolated incident.

4. Just When We Started to Feel Good About UT Football -

KNOXVILLE – All seemed so right for the University of Tennessee’s football team for 36 hours or so after last Saturday’s 50-16 victory over Kentucky at Neyland Stadium.

UT (5-5, 2-4 SEC) won its second straight conference game and moved within one victory of gaining bowl eligibility for the first time since 2010.

Everyone was in a good mood. Not just normally affable Grizzlies players Mike Conley and Mike Miller, but former Grizzlies coach Lionel Hollins and Pro Football Hall-of-Famer Jim Brown, a couple of hard-nosed throwback types.

6. Gilbert Joins Campbell Clinic As Marketing Director -

Chad Gilbert has joined Campbell Clinic as director of marketing. In his new role, Gilbert manages external marketing, advertising and public relations for Campbell’s four Mid-South offices and serves as liaison for the organization, managing several sports medicine partnerships.

That’s not just one of the Memphis Grizzlies’ new marketing slogans. Capitalizing on last season’s success and building an enduring franchise are aspirations for the organization as it copes with the reality of the NBA lockout and the ongoing dry spell of professional hometown hoops.

8. Exchange Club Announces New Board Members -

The Exchange Club Family Center has announced new board members as well as officers for 2011-2012.

Officers are Dan O’Brien, president; George Goldhoff, vice president; Grant Adams, treasurer; Adrienne Dailey-Evans, secretary; and Lucia Heros, immediate past president.

The new board members are Grant Adams, Holly Walters Craft, Adrienne Daily-Evans, Dr. Sheryl Davis, Handel Durham, Joe Fracchia, Dr. Patrick Randolph, Mike Fay, Dr. John Holmes, Shelly Rice and Rick Holland.

10. Tutor Receives Transplant Nursing Excellence Award -

Dr. Ruth Tutor has received the 2007 Transplant Nursing Excellence Award from the International Transplant Nurses Society. Tutor is a Critical Care/Transplant Advance Practice Nurse at Methodist University Hospital Transplant Institute. She has worked with transplant patients since 1985. She joined the nursing staff at the Transplant Institute in 2004.
