1. Mortgage Market Sees Small January Dip -

Shelby County’s mortgage market kicked off 2016 reflecting a bit of the backwards step other sectors of the economy, such as the stock market, have taken in recent weeks.

Looking at purchase activity, new mortgage numbers available for January show mortgage volume last month slipped 3 percent to $86.7 million, compared with $89.4 million in January 2015. That’s according to real estate information company Chandler Reports, chandlerreports.com.

2. ‘More the Merrier’ -

Following a shaky last few years for Overton Square, the area has finally seen tangible evidence of change in recent weeks and the area’s long-term tenants appear to be waiting in anticipation of its new neighbors.

3. Home Sales Climb 18 Percent -

Home sales posted a significant increase last month, but pricing did the opposite due to the market’s surplus of foreclosures.

Shelby County saw 1,025 home sales last month, an impressive 18 percent increase from 871 homes sold during November 2010, according to real estate information company Chandler Reports, www.chandlerreports.com.

4. November Home Sales Slide 24 Percent -

The Shelby County housing market continued to tumble last month, with November home sales falling 24 percent compared with the same month a year ago.

On a brighter note, the monthly average home sales price improved a bit, both from November 2009 and from October.

Belvedere Central LLC has taken out a $750,000 construction loan for the second phase of the Central Gardens Square Condominium renovation project at 1676 Central Ave. The lender was BancorpSouth Bank, and the loan has a maturity date of Sept. 17, 2009.
