The University of Memphis Department of Social Work recently participated in the annual Social Work Day on the Hill.

More than 50 students and six faculty members in bachelor’s and master’s programs traveled to Nashville to gain practical experience in speaking to legislators, building interdisciplinary professional relationships, and advocating for policies primarily related to mental health and child welfare.

3. Griffin Joins Memphis in May To Lead Marketing Efforts -

Robert Griffin has joined Memphis in May International Festival as director of marketing, a role in which he’s responsible for all marketing and communication programs, promotions, media and public relations, marketing research and sponsorship activation for the annual festival. 
Griffin comes to Memphis in May with nearly 20 years’ experience in marketing and advertising.

6. Huey’s CEO Tapped as Restaurateur of the Year -

Huey’s Restaurant president and CEO Lauren McHugh Robinson is the 2015 Tennessee Restaurateur of the Year.

The Tennessee Hospitality and Tourism Association presented her with the honor at its annual awards banquet Tuesday, Aug. 4, after choosing her based on factors like her industry knowledge and experience and involvement in the Memphis community, among other things.

9. Phillips Joins Spirco as Manager, Vice President -

Mike Phillips has joined Spirco Manufacturing as general manager and vice president of operations. In his new role, Phillips will oversee all divisions of the metal-building manufacturer and direct its organizational needs.

10. Imre Named Assistant Controller at Makowsky Ringel Greenberg -

Nancy Imre has joined Makowsky Ringel Greenberg LLC as assistant controller. Imre is responsible for the real estate management company’s accounting department, overseeing investor reporting and preparation of corporate financial statements.

11. Irving Leads Research Co. Animal Cell Therapies -

Adam M. Irving is chief executive officer of San Diego-based Animal Cell Therapies Inc., a company that develops stem cell treatments to treat a variety of ailments for animals. Irving is based in Memphis.

Letitia Robertson has joined BRIDGES as vice president of Bridge Builders.

Who has had the greatest influence on you? I have had two great mentors at critical times in my career path: Ruby Bright and Deidre Malone.
What drew you to BRIDGES? There is a quiet, youth-led social change movement occurring in Memphis and it begins at BRIDGES. Plans are under way to increase the number of youth served through Bridge Builders from 5,000 to 15,000 annually. I could not pass up the opportunity to work with young leaders who will be uniquely poised to help make our community better.
What will your role as VP of Bridge Builders entail? I will oversee the development and expansion of BRIDGES’ youth programming, thereby ensuring that more young people have access.
What do you consider your greatest professional accomplishment? To have played an integral role in helping Leadership Memphis expand and implement its community leadership program continuum has been a great highlight of my career.

13. Arts ‘All-Access Pass’ -

For close to 50 years, local foundation ArtsMemphis has offered various programs and fundraising efforts to support the vibrant arts community of the Memphis area.

At the same time it celebrates its longevity, the organization also keeps an eye to the future to ensure the continuation of this legacy.

14. Jones Receives Welcome Home Memphis Designation -

Crye-Leike affiliate broker C. Lauren Jones was the first Realtor in the Memphis market to receive the Welcome Home Memphis designation when she recently earned the honor.

The designation recently was created by the Memphis Area Association of Realtors and is designed to increase affordable housing expertise.
