1. Harris Joins Transnetyx as VP of Sales -

Michael Harris has joined Transnetyx, a genetic diagnostics company, as vice president of sales for the company’s pharmacogenomics division.

2. State Supreme Court Amends Rules -

The Tennessee Supreme Court in late October adopted new and amended rules for pro bono service, in-house legal work and cross-jurisdictional practice.

The court also formally adopted a new section to Tennessee Supreme Court Rule 9, which asks attorneys to file an annual pro bono statement with the court.

3. Bethel Named New VP Of COMEC Board -

Greg Bethel has been named vice president of the board of directors of the Commission on Missing & Exploited Children (COMEC). Bethel is the director of human resources for the Jackson-Madison County School System in Jackson, Tenn. He's been on the board of directors for two years.

Embattled former FEMA director Michael Brown sat down with an NBC Nightly News reporter in February to defend his department's much-maligned response to the storm.

The Memphis Bar Foundation is looking to follow up a successful year with an encore performance in 2006.

The foundation, a charitable organization made up of local attorneys, reached a number of milestones last year. The group had a record number of fellows in 2005, and contributions to its endowment fund reached an all-time high.

When Hurricane Katrina slammed into the Gulf Coast, the impact was felt across the region, with all types of businesses experiencing ripple effects in the wake of the storm.

The trucking industry is among those segments of the business community that were the most hard-hit. At the industry's core is the need for a readily available supply of fuel to operate trucks as they transport goods across the country - and fuel is sometimes among the goods being transported. And that need is heightened now with an increased urgency for products and supplies as surrounding states assist in recovery and relief efforts.
