When Hardy Farrow takes the stage in the Halloran Centre at The Orpheum Theatre in a few weeks, it will be to present his argument about poverty and what to do about it.
Farrow – who founded LITE Memphis, which stands for Let’s Innovate Through Education – is one of the speakers who’ll be presenting talks Jan. 6 at TEDxMemphis, which has as its theme this year “The Slant.” The conference will be a chance for speakers like Farrow to share their perspective – their slant, as it were – on the world around them.

Ignite Memphis returns next week with what organizers say looks to be the biggest Ignite event ever, on track for another sellout.
The basic idea behind Ignite Memphis: Get a group of creative professionals and Memphians of all stripes, really, to take the stage and make a presentation. That’s pretty much it, other than a few parameters, such as the requirement that the presentations include slides and last a total of five minutes.

That’s why the next incarnation of Ignite is more than doubling its venue capacity by moving from Crosstown Arts to Playhouse on the Square, where 12 speakers next week will challenge, inform and perhaps inspire the crowd that’s come to hear them.
