1. Airline Bid to Block Consumer Protections Rejected -

WASHINGTON (AP) – The government can require airlines to show consumers a total ticket price that includes taxes and fees in print and online ads, the U.S. Court of Appeals said Tuesday, rejecting an industry challenge to a series of consumer protection regulations.

The chairman of the countywide school board, Billy Orgel, was effectively elected to his District 7 school board seat without opposition at the Thursday, April 5, filing deadline for candidates on the Aug. 2 primary and general election ballot in Shelby County.

3. Occupy Protests Cost Nation's Cities at Least $13M -

NEW YORK (AP) – During the first two months of the nationwide Occupy protests, the movement that is demanding more out of the wealthiest Americans cost local taxpayers at least $13 million in police overtime and other municipal services, according to a survey by The Associated Press.

4. Security Rules Eased for Passenger Flights -

DALLAS (AP) – In-flight security rules have been eased after a two-day clampdown, airline officials familiar with the matter said Monday.

At the captain’s discretion, passengers can once again have blankets and other items on their laps or move about the cabin during the tail end of flight. In-flight entertainment restrictions have also been lifted.

5. Mathews Named to New Post at FedEx Institute -

Eric Mathews was named associate director of corporate research and development at the University of Memphis FedEx Institute of Technology. Mathews previously served FIT in temporary roles directing research and business development and was part of the institute's founding executive management. He earned a bachelor's degree from Rhodes College and a master's degree from the University of Memphis.
