4. Final Goodbye: Roll Call of Some Who Died in 2017 -

They made music that inspired legions of fans. Rock 'n' roll founding fathers Chuck Berry and Fats Domino, rockers Tom Petty and Gregg Allman, grunge icon Chris Cornell, country superstar Glen Campbell and jazz great Al Jarreau were among the notable figures who died in 2017, leaving a void in virtually every genre of music.

The city of Memphis and University of Memphis Cecil C. Humphreys School of Law recently hired Brittany J. Williams as the city’s first Neighborhood Preservation Fellow. In that role, Williams will represent the city in Environmental Court lawsuits against property owners who have vacant, abandoned or dilapidated properties that violate city codes.

7. Tennessee AD Dave Hart: Sexual Assault Unacceptable Act -

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Tennessee athletic director Dave Hart stood by his embattled football coach during a news conference Thursday at the university, two weeks after a federal lawsuit was filed Feb. 9 in Nashville alleging that Tennessee mishandles assault complaints against athletes.

8. Crone Promoted at Trane Mid-South -

Jim Crone has been promoted to comprehensive solutions business development manager with Trane Mid-South. In his new role, Crone will work with large commercial, industrial and institutional customers throughout the Mid-South to develop performance-based comprehensive solutions for capital improvements and operational efficiencies.

Cox Media Group has tapped Paul Briggs, an 18-year veteran of the media company, to be the new vice president and general manager at Fox 13. He comes to the station from Charlotte, N.C., where he was the general sales manager at WSOC-TV.

13. Stuttering Foundation's Fraser Honored for Service -

Jane Fraser, president of the Memphis-based Stuttering Foundation of America, has received an honorary fellowship from the London-based Royal College of Speech & Language Therapists. She was selected for her distinguished service in promoting the profession of speech and language therapy. Fraser, whose father started the nonprofit Stuttering Foundation in 1947, has served as its president since 1981.

16. Weddle-West Voted GRE Board Chair-Elect -

Dr. Karen Weddle-West, dean of the graduate school, vice provost for academic affairs and director of diversity initiatives at the University of Memphis, has been voted chair-elect of the GRE (Graduate Record Examination) Board. The national board establishes all policies for the GRE program, the most widely used graduate-school admissions test, and oversees GRE assessments, services and research.

17. Wright Joins Magna Bank as Senior Vice President -

Andy Wright has joined Memphis-based Magna Bank as senior vice president and manager of commercial banking. Wright, who previously held senior vice president positions at Iberiabank and First Tennessee Bank, has experience working with a variety of industries, with in-depth expertise in the transportation and logistics industries.

Michael R. Drompp has been appointed dean of the faculty and vice president for academic affairs at Rhodes College. Drompp will provide leadership for academic departments and interdisciplinary programs in curricular, personnel and budgetary matters.

22. Lillard Prepares for Treasurer Post, Would-Be Replacements Line Up -

David Lillard attended his last Shelby County Board of Commissioners meeting this week.

The competition to win the appointment to his seat has been under way since earlier this month when Lillard won the balloting in the Tennessee Legislature for state treasurer.
