Garcia, Poncedeleon Earn Cardinals’ Honors -

Memphis Redbirds outfielder Adolis Garcia and pitcher Daniel Poncedeleon have been named the Cardinals Minor League Player and Pitcher of the Month for July, the franchise announced.
Garcia, who was also named the Pacific Coast League Player of the Week for the week of July 23-29, hit .354 (34-for-96) in July with eight doubles, one triple, and 10 home runs. He drove in 25 runs, and scored 21 runs. He posted a .374 on-base percentage, a .771 slugging percentage, and an OPS 1.145.

Memphis Redbirds right-hander Daniel Poncedeleon has been named the Pacific Coast League Pitcher of the Week for the week of July 9-15, the league office announced.
Poncedeleon turned in the finest start of his career on Sunday at Omaha. The righty threw a one-hit, complete game shutout, his first nine-inning complete game of his career. He allowed two walks while striking out five batters. He allowed the lone hit, a double, in the second inning, and walked a man with two outs in the third inning. After the walk, he retired 18 consecutive batters until issuing a walk with two outs in the ninth.

University of Memphis football player Riley Ferguson and Nick Jacobs were two of an all-time high 1,267 college football players named to the National Football Foundation’s Hampshire Honor Society. In order to be named to the honor society, football players must have maintained a 3.2 GPA or better throughout their college careers, have completed their final year of eligibility in 2017 and been a starter or significant contributor.
