The National Civil Rights Museum will remember Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s life and legacy Monday, Jan. 15, at its King Day Celebration, with the theme “Where Do We Go From Here?” Museum admission is $5 from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., with optional $3 admission for visitors who bring a canned good donation for Mid-South Food Bank or free admission with a blood donation to Lifeblood. An entertainment stage, health pavilion and children’s activity tent (10 a.m. to 4 p.m.) will be set up outside. Visit civilrightsmuseum.org/king-day for details.

2. Events -

The Association for Women Attorneys will host its 38th annual banquet Tuesday, Jan. 16, at 6 p.m. at 409 S. Main St. The AWA will induct its 2018 board officers, honor A Step Ahead Foundation CEO Claudia Haltom for outstanding achievements in the legal profession, and award scholarships to University of Memphis law school students. 3. Kuo Brings ‘Power Is Female’ Platform To Role as President of Women Attorneys Group -

Incoming Association for Women Attorneys president Eileen Kuo sees women changing how the game is played in the field of law and redefining what it means to be leaders.

Kuo will be sworn in as the 2018 AWA president on Wedesday, Feb. 7, at the 38th annual AWA Banquet to be held Downtown at 409 S. Main St.

5. AWA to Honor Haltom at Annual Event -

After 30 years working with Shelby County government as a practicing attorney and a Juvenile Court judge, the Honorable Claudia Haltom retired and turned her focus to creating something that would make a difference.

6. Step Ahead Accepting Scholarship Applications -

The Step Ahead Scholarship program is accepting applications through April 1.

The fourth annual collaboration between A Step Ahead Foundation, Girls Inc. of Memphis and Tri-State Bank Memphis awards $100,000 in scholarships to girls and young women who plan to pursue a post-secondary education.

8. Cox to Lead Asset Management at Lehman-Roberts -

Matt Cox has been promoted to director of asset management at Lehman-Roberts Co. Cox most recently served as total process reliability coordinator for three years. In his new role, he is responsible for the full lifecycle of all construction equipment supplied to Lehman-Roberts’ operations divisions, including acquiring equipment, maintaining nearly 600 pieces of rolling stock and disposing of equipment as necessary.

The Common Table Health Alliance’s annual meeting will take place on Thursday, May 12, honoring three health impact leaders from the community and addressing the topic “Childhood Obesity: Have We Finally Turned the Corner?”

11. Daniel Allen Joins Red Door As Financial Adviser -

Daniel Allen has joined Red Door Wealth Management as vice president, financial adviser, marking Red Door’s first hire of a financial adviser since its inception in 2010. 12. Justices, AWA Celebrate 30 Years Of Women in Law -

The Association for Women Attorneys is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year, and in a commemoration of the goals women in the law have achieved, the organization Tuesday hosted the three female Tennessee Supreme Court justices – Chief Justice Janice M. Holder, Justice Cornelia A. Clark and Justice Sharon G. Lee – at a continuing legal education seminar at the Memphis Botanic Garden.

13. St. Jude Researcher Earns National Recognition -

Scientific American named Dr. Robert G. Webster, the Rose Marie Thomas chair at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, as a research leader in the 2005 Scientific American 50 - a list compiled by the magazine that recognizes outstanding acts of leadership in science and technology from the past year.
