7. Not Worried About Bama? Just Wait Until Kickoff -

Tennessee’s football team will make history Saturday against No. 1-ranked Alabama (7-0, 4-0 SEC), no matter what happens with the game.

The Vols (3-3, 0-3 SEC) were 34-point underdogs early in the week for the 3:30 EDT game (TV: CBS) in Tuscaloosa. The 34-point spread is the largest ever in the UT-Alabama series.

8. Looks Like Another 8-4 Season for Tennessee -

Oops. I goofed last year. So did lots of other people who thought Tennessee’s football team would win the SEC East Division and go to the league championship game for the first time since 2007.

Good news and bad news. Let’s start with the bad news. This University of Memphis basketball team is not good enough for things to get much better.

The good news? They’re not bad enough for things to get a lot worse.

15. Titans Should Follow Lions’ Lead in Overhauling Roster -

Instead of CBS, Fox or even the NFL Network, the Titans might need to move to the HGTV, where experts take once-proud houses and restore them to their former grandeur.

Now losers of six in a row and 10 of their past 11 – with only a two-point home win against fellow patsy Jacksonville – the Titans are no longer treading the waters of mediocrity, as they had for the previous five years.

16. Lineup Shuffles Highlight Tigers' Tuneup for Las Vegas -

A new season brings optimism – or marketing, if you want to be cynical about it – but also some reflective truth-telling.

Go back to this time last year for the University of Memphis basketball team. They were going to be really good, or maybe even great, because of the four senior guards. Those guards – Joe Jackson, Chris Crawford, Geron Johnson and Michael Dixon – were going to be leaders, defensive dynamos and 3-point sharpshooters.

MEMPHIS (AP) – Memphis has added a pair of transfers by bringing in guard Kedren Johnson from Vanderbilt and forward Calvin Godfrey from Southern.

The additions of both players were announced Monday in a school release. Godfrey and Johnson are both seeking NCAA waivers that would allow them to play for Memphis immediately. If their waivers aren't granted, they'd have to sit out a season before becoming eligible to play for the Tigers in 2015-16.
