A planned statue of Johnny Cash in the Cooper-Young Historic District has taken another step forward with the selection of an artist and foundry to create the monument.
Legacy Memphis Inc., the nonprofit that has been planning and raising funds for the Cash statue, has a contractual agreement with artist Mike McCarthy and the Lugar Bronze Foundry.

2005: Baptist Memorial Hospital comes down in a controlled demolition in which the four wings of the 18-story, 924,000-square-foot reinforced concrete hospital building collapse in a heap of rubble 49 years after the original two wings opened to the public. The other two wings of the structure were added in 1966. Also demolished earlier as part of the project was the adjoining Physicians and Surgeons Building, which had been built in 1912 as the original Baptist Hospital.

Thousands of people packed Beale Street between Second and Third Streets Wednesday, May 27, for the funeral procession of B.B. King.
The legendary bluesman – who came from Mississippi to the street of the blues in the late 1940s – enjoyed a career that spanned generations. King’s guitar, Lucille, was carried ahead of the hearse bearing his body by Rodd Bland, the son of the late Bobby "Blue’ Bland, who was a close friend of King.

Music legend Fred Sanders spent most of his days playing guitar in Memphis’ Handy Park.
As the house guitarist at the old Club Paradise, Sanders played alongside other Memphis music legends, including B.B. King, Bobby “Blue” Bland and Albert King. Sanders also played his music at Blues Alley on Front Street, leaving tourists in awe and was a particular favorite of traveling blues aficionados.

Blues legend Bobby “Blue” Bland is suing a California man who claims to be his son, according to court papers the Memphis recording artist has filed.
Bland, a member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum, wants the court to issue an order to stop Rodney Lopes of Sacramento from using his name to promote his musical career. Bland is also seeking $1 million in punitive damages.

She is a special agent for the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) in charge of the Memphis field office. Since her arrival in Memphis two years ago, she has supervised a number of high-profile federal investigations, including "Operation Tennessee Waltz," "Operation Tarnished Blue" and "Operation Main Street Sweeper."
