2. Meritan’s Branch Named Among Top Nurses -

Cindy Branch, Meritan’s associate vice president for health services, has been selected to represent Tennessee as one of the nation’s top 50 home care and hospice nurses by the National Association for Home Care & Hospice and the Home Healthcare Nurses Association. Branch, a registered nurse, has oversight of Meritan’s nursing programs, including home health, private duty nursing and medical residential homes. She will be recognized at NACH’s annual meeting in October.

The University of Memphis College of Communication and Fine Arts today will honor Knox Phillips with the 2008 Distinguished Achievement Award in the Creative and Performing Arts at 11:30 a.m. at the Rendezvous, 52 S. Second St. Phillips, son of Sun Records founder Sam Phillips, will be honored for his work in the music scene as an engineer, producer, studio owner and supporter of local music. Cost of the luncheon is $50 per person and $350 for a table of eight. Seating is limited. For reservations, call 678-5086 or 678-4372.

4. Methodist's Marshall to Serve On American Heart Association Board -

Barry S. Marshall, administrator of Clinical Business Development and Cardiovascular Service Line at Methodist University Hospital, has been named to a three-year term on the board of directors of the Shelby County Division of the American Heart Association. Marshall joined Methodist in 2004 as the director of the Transplant Institute at Methodist University Hospital.

5. Mayor Herenton's Executive Assistant Moves to MLGW -

Gale Jones Carson has been named director of corporate communications for Memphis Light, Gas & Water Division. In her new executive-level position, she will report directly to MLGW president and CEO Joseph Lee III. She previously was executive assistant to Memphis Mayor Willie Herenton.
