Greg Schowen has been named general manager of Baptist Ambulance, a member of the Priority Ambulance family of companies that currently serves 10 Baptist Memorial Health Care facilities with interfacility transport, as well as six communities with 911 response. Schowen brings 25 years of experience overseeing operations for emergency medical service providers in high-performance 911 service areas, including Los Angeles County, California, and Las Vegas, Nevada.

Baptist Memorial Health Care is opening a 12-bed pediatric intensive care unit next week at the Spence and Becky Wilson Baptist Children’s Hospital, the latest addition to Baptist’s growing suite of pediatric services.

He was the new vice chancellor of development and alumni relations at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center – the youngest person ever to hold the job. Baptist Memorial Health Care has added a trio of new specialists to its ranks, welcoming a new pediatric intensivist, a surgeon and a pediatric gastrointestinal specialist.

Their work at the Spence and Becky Wilson Baptist Children’s Hospital is quickly turning it into even more of “a strong and viable option for pediatric care,” said Kevin Hammeran, administrator and CEO at Baptist Children’s Hospital and Baptist Memorial Hospital for Women.

13. Baptist Adding ICU at Children’s Hospital -

The Spence and Becky Wilson Baptist Children’s Hospital has hit its ceiling and is now expanding to meet increased demand. When the 19,000-square-foot pediatric emergency department opened last year, Baptist Memorial Health Care expected to treat 35 children a day. That figure is more like 65 to 70 children, with the hospital expecting to exceed 20,000 patients in its first year.

Anita Vaughn’s notable 43-year career with Baptist Memorial Hospital started on a whim.

“I went to University of Memphis for a year thinking I was going to be a commercial artist,” Vaughn said. “Then a friend just happened to say, ‘You know what? I’m going down to Baptist School of Nursing,’ and I said, ‘Well, OK. Me too!’
