1. Anne Dixon Joins BRIDGES as CFO -

Anne Dixon has joined BRIDGES as vice president of finance and chief financial officer. Dixon, who is a Bridge Builders alumna, is responsible in her new role for financial reporting and analysis to help BRIDGES leadership in performing their responsibilities. 

2. Fertile Ground -

In 1947, two parcels of land on the eastern boundaries of Memphis were purchased for $400,000 to be used as a new city park.

At the suggestion of political boss E.H. Crump, an avid bird enthusiast, the park was nearly named Bluebird, yet would come to be known as Audubon Park, home to a shooting range and golf course among other amenities.

The National Hispanic Association will meet Thursday, June 9, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Hilton Memphis, 939 Ridge Lake Blvd. Rakesh Kochhar, associate director of research for the Pew Hispanic Center in Washington, will speak about the growth of Tennessee’s Hispanic population. The Alliance for Nonprofit Excellence will hold a workshop Tuesday, June 7, from 8:30 a.m. to noon at its office, 5100 Poplar Ave., suite 502. Participants will learn the principles and practices of an effective internal control system. Cost is $60 for members, $110 for nonmembers and $55 for those in the Program for Nonprofit Excellence. The American Heart Association will hold “Girl’s Night Out: A Night to Celebrate ‘Go Red for Women’” Monday, June 6, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Hilton Memphis, 939 Ridge Lake Blvd. The evening will include a silent auction, vendors and a heart-healthy meal.
