1. Grizzlies Hope to Grind Out a Playoff Win at Home -

April 22, 2004. The Memphis Grizzlies’ first home playoff game in franchise history at The Pointed House now known as Bass Pro Shops.

Hubie Brown was the Grizzlies coach then, and the NBA’s Coach of the Year for overseeing a 50-win season. The Gasol on the team was Pau and Bonzi Wells was the more controlled forerunner to Lance “Born Ready” Stephenson.

2. Memphis Takes Pounding in Opener With Spurs -

The Memphis Grizzlies were not alone in their unmitigated defeat. The NBA Playoffs started this past weekend and while descriptions of what happened to the Grizzlies within the shadow of the Alamo in San Antonio were colorful – “a 106-74 bludgeoning by the San Antonio Spurs” read one account at NBA.com – this was hardly an isolated incident.

4. Neal Joins Madison Line Records as Chief Operating Officer -

Antonio Neal has joined Madison Line Records, the record label affiliated with Visible Music College, as chief operating officer. Neal – a four-time Gospel Music Association Dove Award winner who has also been nominated for a Grammy Award and four Stellar Gospel Music Awards – will oversee marketing, publishing and day-to-day operations at the label.

MEMPHIS (AP) – Tony Parker appreciates San Antonio coach Gregg Popovich's conservation plan.

6. Elvis Statue Unveiled at Site of Classic Hawaii Concert -

HONOLULU (AP) - Elvis lives, and he hasn't aged a bit since his legendary 1973 "Aloha from Hawaii" concert.

A life-sized Elvis Presley statue was unveiled Thursday at the site of the concert, looking much as he did 34 years ago. His hair is slicked back, vest plastered on, microphone tilted toward his lips and flared pants draped to the floor.

7. Things Go From Hot To Smoking Hot In Election Contests -

With one week to the filing deadline for the Oct. 4 Memphis city elections, 124 citizens have thought seriously enough about running for the 15 offices on the ballot to check out qualifying petitions. Nearly 40 had filed by the end of the first week.
