The court-appointed receiver in the Memphis federal court case involving Global Ministries Foundation has an offer to buy the Tulane and Warren apartment complexes owned by GMF.

Cleveland, Ohio-based Millenia Housing Development Ltd. has offered the receiver $3 million for both properties, according to court documents and a legal notice in the Tuesday, March 14, edition of The Daily News.

NEW YORK (AP) – USA Today publisher Gannett walked away Tuesday from its attempted takeover of Tronc, the owner of the Los Angeles Times, Chicago Tribune and other major dailies.

Gannett's target was elusive from the beginning, with a publicly contentious back-and-forth between the two companies. Tronc, formerly known as Tribune Publishing, rejected at least two bids from Gannett since April because it said it preferred to go it alone and focus on tech-driven initiatives involving artificial intelligence and global expansion in entertainment news and video.

18. Local Multifamily Market Continues To Log Higher Sales, Strong Demand -

Multifamily real estate sales have been strong in Memphis for a couple of years, and the 41 transactions posted in the third quarter mark the most recorded in a quarter in two years.

“The multifamily market continues to be very strong and has been the strongest real estate sector for the past several years,” said Mark Fogelman, president of Memphis-based Fogelman Management Group, a national multifamily property management company.

27. US Home Construction Slumped in August; Big Dip in the South -

WASHINGTON (AP) – Homebuilders pulled back on construction in the South, causing the pace of August housing starts nationwide to fall to their lowest level in three months.

Despite the monthly decline, construction activity has accelerated for much this year. Builders are increasingly optimistic about sales growth, a reflection of how steady job gains are leading more Americans to purchase new houses and sign leases for new apartments.

28. Marriott Receives Final Approval Needed for Starwood Buyout -

NEW YORK (AP) – Chinese antitrust regulators have approved Marriott's buyout of Starwood, marking the final approval needed for the deal to close.

Marriott International Inc. and Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide Inc. expect to close the deal before the market opens on Friday.

On both sides of the spectrum, real estate developers and tenants are attracted to bike share because proximity to the rental bikes makes areas attractive.

Developer Billy Orgel said he’s interested in securing a bike station to serve the four residential buildings, office users and 358-space parking garage at his planned Brewery District Downtown.

Cordova’s Parkway Place shopping center and three adjacent properties have sold in foreclosure for $19.6 million.

The properties entered into foreclosure after its owners – 19 North Carolina limited liability companies – defaulted on a $22.5 million loan, according to a first-run foreclosure notice in the Friday, Aug. 5, edition of The Daily News.

37. Shelby County Foreclosures Remain at Historic Lows -

Over the last several years foreclosure activity in Memphis and Shelby County has reached historic lows. Year to date, foreclosures are down 23 percent from the same period of 2015.

The number of homes in foreclosure inventory, properties that have been foreclosed but not yet resold by the bank, has fallen drastically. At the end of 2008, there were 3,925 homes in foreclosure inventory; at the end of July, there were 2,070, a decrease of 47 percent.

New York-based Hyde Capital has purchased three Midtown properties for a combined $15.4 million.

Rosecrest LLC, a company of Hyde Capital, purchased the Rosecrest Apartments from Northland Rosecrest LLC for $8.5 million in an Aug. 5 warranty deed.

The Securities and Exchange Commission is investigating Global Ministries Foundation, according to the court-appointed receiver for the Tulane and Warren Apartment, two complexes owned by GMF.

Word of the SEC probe follows search warrants served at Global Ministries Cordova offices Aug. 3 in a separate investigation by the Inspector General’s office of the federal Department of Housing and Urban Development.

The Tennessee Housing Development Agency plans to inspect at least a dozen apartment complexes in Memphis where federal subsidies pay tenants’ rent.

THDA executive director Ralph Perrey said the agency’s authority to make the inspections resumes in July. And the agency isn’t saying which properties will be visited “so as not to ruin the surprise,” Perrey said Wednesday, May 25, as he announced the resumption of the inspections.
