The Senate Finance, Ways and Means Committee postponed a bill by Sen. John Stevens until January 2018, ending the debate this year on a measure singling out Davidson County efforts to restrict short-term rentals such as Airbnb.

2016 was a big year for Memphis’ condominium market. Sales were up 18 percent from 2015, driven primarily by brisk sales at the Artesian Metropolitan Residences, the luxury high-rise on Riverside Drive. Excited reports were made of a renaissance in Memphis condo sales. It seemed as if everyone wanted a condo, and wanted one fast.

Primacy II, a 123,265-square-foot East Memphis office building, has a new owner thanks to a huge $17 million deal.

Nashville-based Priam Capital purchased the office building located at 6055 Primacy Parkway near the intersection Ridgway Road and Park Avenue from The Southland Companies for $16.6 million, according to a warranty deed filed with the Shelby County Register of Deeds April 11.

85. Shelby County Housing Market Caps Off Strong First Quarter -

The final month of the quarter capped off a strong start to 2017 as the number of homes sold in Shelby County were up 20 percent in March and 13 percent for the first quarter.

The average home sales price in March was $151,688, a 5 percent increase from $144,949 a year ago, according to real estate information company Chandler Reports, chandlerreports.com.

Based on an analysis of all home sales recorded in Memphis and Shelby County last year, 25 percent of purchases were made by investors. Of these sales, 42 percent were purchased by out-of-town owners, where the tax bill is mailed to an address outside of Shelby County.

The owners of City & State on Broad Avenue filed paperwork with the city of Memphis requesting approval to convert an abandoned liquor store into a diner – fittingly named The Liquor Store – that will serve breakfast, lunch and dinner.
