1. Last Word: The Crest, OPEB Fever, Armstrong Leaves and An Elvis Warning -

The crest is here and it is not quite 40 feet on the Mississippi River gauge. The projections Thursday evening going into Friday’s crest of the river at Memphis changed a bit from the 40.3 foot level. The crest is 39.8 feet.
No reports of major damage anywhere in Shelby County, according to the Shelby County Office of Prepardness.
But the river’s high water is still a sight to behold.

3. NexAir Expands With Merger and Acquisition -

Memphis-based nexAir, one of the largest distributors of atmospheric gasses and welding supplies in the U.S., has kicked off 2016 with a big expansion of its footprint.

The company is merging 23 Praxair Distribution Southeast LLC (PDSE) branches in Florida and southeast Georgia into its operation. That Praxair entity is also becoming a wholly owned subsidiary of nexAir, and the current nexAir management team will lead the overall venture.

Project Victory isn’t in the bag just yet. There is competition. Project Victory is what local economic development officials were calling the proposed $301 million expansion of the Nike Inc. plant in Frayser.

The board of the Memphis and Shelby County Economic Development Growth Engine approved Wednesday, Oct. 17, a 15-year payment in lieu of taxes agreement with Nike Tn. Inc. for a $301 million expansion of its Northridge plant in Frayser.

Danbury, Conn.-based industrial gases company Praxair Inc. and Memphis-based nexAir LLC are forming a joint venture that will enable the combined business to have a bigger reach and broader mix of services for customers.

Jill Iglehart teared up at the end of the last working meeting this week of the Memphis-Shelby County Industrial Development Board despite vowing not to.

“This has been an excellent board,” said Iglehart who was appointed 17 years ago. “It has been a privilege and an honor to serve with you. We are adjourned.”

At the last working meeting of the Memphis-Shelby County Industrial Development Board, the board approved a retention PILOT (payment in lieu of taxes) tax break for McKesson Corp. for the construction of two new facilities in Shelby County.

11. Final IDB Meeting Features Six Projects -

When the Memphis-Shelby County Industrial Development Board meets Wednesday, July 20, it will have on its plate six projects to consider that could bring 259 new jobs to the city, millions of dollars of new investment to the area and keep some of an existing employer’s operations in the city.

12. Praxair to Expand Capacity at Memphis Factory -

DANBURY, Conn. (AP) — Praxair Inc. said Monday it will double the capacity of the air-separation complex at its Memphis plant to produce more oxygen and nitrogen for steel maker Nucor Corp. and oil refiner Valero Energy Corp.

13. nexAir Expands McLean Blvd. Plant -

Memphis-based atmospheric gases and welding supplies distributor nexAir has added a state-of-the-art hydrogen filling plant to its production plant and distribution facility, 1211 N. McLean Blvd.

14. IDB to Consider Praxair PILOT Request -

The Memphis-Shelby County Industrial Development Board is scheduled to take action today on a 10-year payment-in-lieu-of-taxes (PILOT) request by Praxair Inc. that would save the company $2.8 million.

15. nexAir’s Vaughan Retires After 39 Years -

Bill Vaughan, president and chief operating officer of Memphis-based nexAir, is retiring after 39 years at the company.
