3. Last Word: DNA Unit Trouble, 100 Years After Ell Persons and Gas Tax Hike Redux -

The suspension of Ouita Knowlton, the Memphis Police detective overseeing the MPD's DNA Unit, appears to involve more than alleged violations of police policies. The unit oversees testing and processing of all current rape kits and those left unprocessed for decades that the city is currently working its way through five years after the admission. The District Attorney General’s office is part of the investigation of Knowlton, the office confirmed Monday. There are no specifics about what is involved here. But the police investigation will go to District Attorney General Amy Weirich who will then determine if criminal laws were violated and if there is a case to be made.

5. Medical, Edge Districts Eye Bike Share Connectivity -

Efforts to install a new bike share program in Memphis by next year are gaining traction, and organizers are envisioning a much more connected Memphis in the years to come.

Nonprofit upstart Explore Bike Share expects to launch its bike share system in Memphis in 2017, with approximately 600 bikes at 60 stations planned within the Interstate 240 loop.

16. Eddleman Joins Family Safety Center -

Vernetta Eddleman has joined the Family Safety Center, Memphis and Shelby County’s center for victims of domestic violence, as director of client services.

In her new role, Eddleman will be responsible for the planning, design, development and management of client services, and will also supervise and train staff and partner agency providers in delivering quality care to victims and their families.

17. Leases Push Renaissance Center Near Capacity -

The Renaissance Center office building in East Memphis should be near capacity early next year, following a series of recent lease signings.

Financial Federal signed a lease on Tuesday, Nov. 20, to occupy 27,000 square feet on the first and second floors of the Renaissance Center, 1715 Aaron Brenner Drive. In addition to the new location, the growing financial firm will have signage atop the East Memphis office building along Poplar Avenue east of Interstate 240.

18. LeSaint Logistics Leases Space Near Airport -

LeSaint Logistics LLC is entering the Memphis market, having recently leased 57,285 square feet at 3300 Jet Cove.

19. Green Line Marketing Doubles Office -

Green Line Marketing Group has outgrown its East Memphis office space due to its expanded staff and client roster.

The boutique agency has signed a 2,000-square-foot lease in Racquet Club Plaza, where it will relocate from its three 350-square-foot executive suites in Clark Tower by the end of the month.

28. Downtown Medical District Seeks Connection -

The new Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital has embraced the effort to inter-connect the Downtown medical district with a cohesive streetscape, common signage and pedestrian-friendly environment.

It is the starting point for an effort to better link the hospitals, educational institutions and other anchors of the Memphis Medical Center. The University of Tennessee Health Science Center is also exploring ways to better connect with the district.
