ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. (AP) – The anticipation of legal sports gambling throughout the United States has prompted a flurry of deals among gambling and technology firms who want a foothold in a market worth billions.

6. Penn National Gaming to Buy 2 Tunica Casinos for $44M -

A Pennsylvania-based gaming company is planning to add to its Tunica-area holdings by buying the gaming operations of Bally’s Casino Tunica and Resorts Casino Tunica.

Penn National Gaming Inc. announced Tuesday, March 28, it has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire RIH Acquisitions MS I LLC and RIH Acquisitions MS II LLC, the holding companies for the two casinos, for approximately $44 million in cash. The transaction, which is expected to close in the second quarter of 2017, still has to be approved by the Mississippi Gaming Commission.

7. Hollywood Tunica Revenue Slips From 2009 -

Hollywood Casino Tunica earned $21.4 million during the quarter ended Sept. 30, a 10 percent decrease $23.8 million from the same period a year ago.

The casino’s parent company, Penn National Gaming Inc., released the financial information with its third quarter earning report. The Tunica property’s earnings total $65.69 million from Jan. 1 to Sept. 30, compared to $71.93 million for the same period of 2009.

8. Hollywood Casino Names Carlucci New GM -

Anthony Carlucci is the new general manager at Hollywood Casino Tunica.

Carlucci, 48, previously worked at Boomtown Biloxi, Miss., where he served as assistant general manager. He also has held management positions in casinos in Illinois and Atlantic City, N.J. He is a certified public accountant.

9. Hollywood Casino GM Leaves for Maine Casino -

John R. Osborne, 52, has left his job as general manager of Hollywood Casino Tunica to take the helm at Hollywood Slots Hotel & Raceway in Bangor, Maine, the parent company for the two casinos, Penn National Gaming Inc. announced this week.

10. Hollywood Tunica Revenues Increase in Second Quarter -

Hollywood Casino Tunica had revenues of $23.7 million for the second quarter, compared to $22.1 million for the same period a year ago – a 7.2 percent increase in revenue.

The casino’s parent company, Penn National Gaming, released the earnings Wednesday when it issued its quarterly report. Companywide, it had earnings of $580.8 million compared to $620.6 million for the same period a year ago.

Penn National Gaming Inc., the parent company of Hollywood Tunica, released its first quarter earnings report on Thursday.

NEW YORK (AP) – The lodging sector looked less than comfortable Thursday as earnings reports from two major hotel and casino companies outlined the troubles facing the industry in the U.S.

Lodging and gaming stocks had risen in the days before the reports were released, as a drop in oil prices boosted investors’ hopes that the impact of the U.S. economic downturn on the travel industry might not be as great as feared.
