13. Developers Amend Highland Row Plan -

Developers of the Highland Row mixed-use development by the University of Memphis are taking an amended plan for the project to the Land Use Control Board Thursday, Feb. 13.

The new plan calls for less retail and commercial uses and more residential development.

The University of Memphis is in the early stages of updating its campus master plan, and it will seek input from its neighbors as it moves into its next century of higher education.

The U of M has hired the Smith Group JJR of Ann Arbor, Mich., to lead the effort with Memphis-based LRK Inc. serving as the local partner.

Worthington Hyde Partners, working under the name Highland Row Land Partners LLC, has bought the 13 acres of vacant land slated to become Highland Row from Poag & McEwen Lifestyle Centers – Memphis LLC for $2.6 million. The deal closed Thursday, Nov. 17.

17. Fairgrounds Discussion Becomes More Ambiguous -

For two hours this week the lights were dimmed in the theater of the Children’s Museum of Memphis and Memphis City Council members got a review of plans for the Mid-South Fairgrounds renovation.

When the house lights came up and the PowerPoint presentation went dark, many concluded the ambitious Herenton administration plan is “back to square one,” to quote several council members.
