A new program that launched this week in Memphis is built around bringing a big dose of innovation to local volunteerism.

Volio, a service unveiled by Memphian Sarah Petschonek’s existing program called Volunteer Odyssey, is a kind of virtual volunteer fair, built around an interactive platform that includes engaging videos. The point is to amplify in a big way the work already under way by Volunteer Odyssey, the volunteering platform for job seekers Petschonek launched in 2013.

If a Wells Fargo & Co. survey is any indication, there’s no way to sugarcoat it: The retirement years look bleak for a large swath of the U.S. population. Take the fact that, according to the survey, more than one-third of respondents might find themselves living close to poverty in their golden years. Those 34 percent expect their retirement income to be half of their current income.

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) - Most workers are not reducing their retirement contributions even though higher fuel and food prices have prompted them to cut spending in many areas, a leading retirement investment firm said Wednesday.

8. Blockman Joins Keller Williams -

Harold Blockman has been named the new vice president & principal broker of the Memphis Central Market Center for Keller Williams Realty.

Blockman serves as director of the board of the Memphis Area Association of Realtors and was selected for the 2007 Community Service Award by MAAR. Blockman is also president of the Tennessee GRI Association and a member of the Multi-Million Dollar Club.

9. Perrin to Oversee Orpheum's Fundraising Efforts, Special Events -

The Orpheum Theatre announced Jim Perrin has been named vice president of development. Perrin previously served as the president of Junior Achievement of Memphis & the Mid-South Inc. In his new position, he will oversee the Orpheum's fundraising efforts, special events and other projects.

10. Gerard Appointed Administrator at Methodist Cancer Center -

Dr. Dava F. Gerard has been appointed administrator for the Methodist Healthcare Cancer Center. She previously was the founding vice president and chief operating officer of the Nevada Cancer Institute in Las Vegas.
