The Memphis College of Art has filed a $1.5 million building permit with the city-county Office of Construction Code Enforcement for interior work on its Downtown campus, 477 S. Main St.

5. Williams Joins Del-Nat as Director of Finance -

Ronnie Williams has joined Del-Nat Tire Corp. as director of finance. Williams, who has a 15-year background in finance and accounting, most recently served as director of finance at Health Choice LLC. In his new role, he will be responsible for finance and accounting functions and will direct operations to meet budget and financial goals.

8. Hester Builds Know-How in Commercial Construction -

Len Hester is a project manager for Grinder Haizlip Construction Co., a general contractor that specializes in industrial and commercial projects and has worked on high-profile projects such as the Wright Medical Technology Inc. headquarters in Arlington, New Ballet Ensemble, the Grizzlies Sportsplex and the renovation of Memphis Theological Seminary.

9. Literacy Mid-South’s Dean Appointed to State Coalition -

Kevin Dean, executive director of Literacy Mid-South, has been appointed to the Tennessee Literacy Coalition’s board of directors. The board unanimously approved Dean’s nomination, and he will serve as a representative from West Tennessee for three years.

10. 'Extremely Depressed' -

Ask the owners and operators of the largest commercial construction firms in the Memphis area how things are going these days, and it’s hard to get a response that is not pessimistic.

“Extremely depressed,” said Henry Haizlip, owner and vice president of Grinder-Haizlip Construction Co. Inc., which was founded in 1992 and provides general construction services to commercial, industrial and manufacturing industries in the Mid-South area. “And that is not a light statement.”

Why did you pursue a career in real estate? I believe that God never wastes life experiences on us. This field seemed like a blend of many of my life experiences.
What do you consider your greatest professional accomplishments? Earning my designation as a Certified Commercial Investment Member was a proud moment although I feel that it is an equally great accomplishment anytime I am able to meet a need for one of my clients through a commercial real estate transaction.
What do you most enjoy about your work? I really like the team concept promoted at Investec. I couldn’t be happier to work alongside Jon Albright and tackle some of the amazing projects we have coming down the pipeline.

Valero Refining Co. and Valero Energy Corp. this week filed three permit applications totaling $2.5 million with the city-county Office of Construction Code Enforcement to install new foundations and buildings at the Valero refinery at 543 Mallory Ave. off Interstate 55 near Downtown.

15. Wright Medical Permit Filed For Interior Alterations -

Wright Medical Technology Inc. has applied for a $300,000 permit for property at 5677 Airline Road in Arlington. The permit described the project as “interior alterations.” The contractor for the project is Grinder & Haizlip Construction Inc.

16. RedRover Shows Growth Strategy With Hire of Latourette -

It might seem counterintuitive that a small Memphis marketing and communications agency like RedRover Co. LLC is adding to its staff at a time of economic uncertainty and palpable fear in the business world. RedRover recently brought Cynthia Latourette on board as a marketing coordinator and account executive.
