Two Memphis businesses are set to receive Inner City Economic Development loans to improve their facilities.

The Economic Development Growth Engine finance committee voted Wednesday, June 7, to award a $20,000 loan to HopeWorks, located at 3337 Summer Ave. in Highland Heights, and a $19,000 loan to Orca Printing, located at 1808 September Ave. in Southeast Memphis. The forgivable ICED loans will help offset the costs of physical improvements to their locations.

The Finance Committee of the Memphis-Shelby County Economic Development Growth Engine has approved three grants for inner-city businesses.

April House Premier, at 5650 Mt. Moriah Road, will receive an $8,255 Inner City Economic Development loan. The funds will go toward facade improvements and plumbing and electrical upgrades at the 3,400-square-foot restaurant. Through the Workforce Investment Network, April House Premier will also launch an apprenticeship program for young adults interested in the culinary arts.

Hughes is a health care industry veteran, and is joining CPS after a 15-year career at GE Healthcare, where he spent the last five years as head of the company's U.S. Clinical System Sales and Marketing Division. He's also held leadership positions at Symphony Health Services, Harlan Laboratories and Dynavox. He attended the University of Kentucky and completed his graduate studies at Marquette University.
