As Facebook prepares for its multibillion-dollar initial public offering (IPO) next month, it sheds light on how companies – including local ones – decide whether to go public or not.

Memphis-based pharmaceutical company GTx Inc. went public in 2004 and local paper producer Verso Paper Corp. held its IPO in 2008, but the overall number of publicly traded companies both locally and nationally has dropped over the past two decades.

7. Bankrupt Shyona Sells Cordova Quality Suites -

Minesh Patel has bought the 102-unit Quality Suites hotel at 8166 Varnavas Drive in Cordova from Shyona Inc. for $2.5 million after Shyona filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection. Patel and spouse Jagruti Patel financed the purchase with a $2.8 million loan through Liberty Bank of Arkansas.

8. Investec Realty Svcs. Partners With Sperry Van Ness Int'l -

Memphis-based commercial real estate firm Investec Realty Services is now an independently owned and operated franchise of Sperry Van Ness International, the two companies announced Tuesday, Dec. 1.

9. CrescoAg Inks Lease for New Downtown HQ -

Downtown Memphis has landed another corporate headquarters. CrescoAg LLC, an independent information management company, has signed a new lease on 4,594 square feet at 88 Union Ave.

11. Land of Lenny's -

With the opening of a second Downtown Lenny’s, the Memphis-born restaurant chain has the city covered as good as the hot pepper relish on its signature subs.

The new restaurant, slated to open Monday at 153 S. Main St., is just a short jaunt of seven blocks – not even a half-mile – from the existing one at 22 N. Front St.

Details:  Wright Medical Group Inc. has bought a 56,340-square-foot building at 11481 Gulf Stream Ave. near its Arlington campus to increase distribution capacity. Operating in the transaction as Wright Medical Technology Inc., the company paid $1.6 million for the building, which was completed in 1973 and sits on 4.29 acres near the intersection of Tenn. 385 and U.S. 70.

14. Harris Sells School To Franchisee for $1.7M -

After developing the land and building a day care center, R.S. Harris has sold The Goddard School franchise he brought to 509 E. Winchester Road in Collierville for $1.7 million. Harris’ limited liability company, R.S. Harris LLC, sold the recently completed 8,170-square-foot day care center to the school’s franchisee, Love for Learning LLC.

Re/Max of Kentucky/Tennessee Inc. has filed a breach of franchise agreement complaint against Stan Holmes, his realty company and the four Re/Max franchises he operated in the Memphis area, for a litany of unpaid fees plus penalties and other costs.

Funeral services for Len Moore, the man who started a sandwich shop in Bartlett that grew into the Lenny’s Sub Shop national franchise, were held Friday in Woodlands, Texas.

19. Lenny’s Founder Dies in Texas -

Leonard “Len” Moore, 54, died Tuesday in Conroe, Texas, according to the office of Montgomery County Justice of the Peace Trey Spikes and the Southeast Texas Forensics Center. The office said an autopsy was being performed Thursday.
