The Presidential primary caravan has arrived.
Former President Bill Clinton was in Whitehaven Thursday evening to campaign for his wife, former Secretary of State and U.S. Senator Hillary Clinton.
And it was a reminder of his political potency as well as his popularity in a city that went for Barack Obama over his wife in the 2008 Tennessee Presidential primary but which was solidly behind him in both of his successful bids for the White House in the 1990s.
Clinton spoke in a packed Whitehaven High gymnasium to more than 700 people for almost an hour and then worked the crowd that gathered near the podium for another 25 minutes before sprinting out a door to a waiting car.
We’ll be busy this weekend with the opening of the local Bernie Sanders campaign headquarters and we’re still waiting on that promised Donald Trump Memphis appearance.
And we expect to encounter lots of Republican presidential partisans at the local GOP's annual Lincoln Day Gala on the 20th.

13. New Numbers: Memphis Industrial Market Breaks Records -

The Memphis industrial sector had a banner year in 2015. According to year-end data from Cushman & Wakefield/Commercial Advisors, last year’s absorption level came in at 8.4 million square feet, 2 million square feet higher than 2006’s pre-recession levels and a record for the market.

A light industrial business park in Northeast Memphis has sold for $48.3 million.

Boston-based Taurus Investment Holdings LLC acquired the seven-building Century Center Business Park on Dec. 30 from GID Investment Advisers, which had owned it for a decade. Miami-based Holliday Fenoglio Fowler LP marketed the park on behalf of GID.

A light industrial business park in Northeast Memphis has sold for $48.3 million.

Boston-based Taurus Investment Holdings LLC acquired the seven-building Century Center Business Park on Dec. 30 from GID Investment Advisers, which had owned it for a decade. Miami-based Holliday Fenoglio Fowler LP marketed the park on behalf of GID.

In its 2015 list of the top 100 companies to watch for remote jobs, FlexJobs looked at the job-posting histories of more than 30,000 companies last year. The report, released in January, revealed a 26 percent increase in the number of remote jobs posted, hinting that the option to work from home is becoming more widely accepted in the broader economy.

International Paper Reports Q2 Earnings Growth: International Paper reports its second-quarter net earnings grew while net sales for the quarter decreased slightly.

The Memphis-based company, which released its quarterly financial results Wednesday, July 29, said second-quarter earnings totaled $227 million, or 54 cents per share. That’s up from $161 million, or 37 cents per share, in second quarter 2014, but down from $313 million, or 74 cents per share, in first quarter 2015.

When Southaven Mayor Darren Musselwhite took office in June 2013, one of the first tasks that landed on his desk was a long-planned regional outlet mall.

Michigan-based manufacturer Dayco Products Ltd. will consolidate its distribution operations in the Memphis area, but exactly where remains undecided.

“Due to the continued growth in demand for our products and increased product complexity over the past several years, we have committed to this significant capital investment in order to deliver increased value to our customers,” said Ed Rammel, president of the North American and Australian Aftermarket for Dayco, in a company statement.

That TEDx event is coming to Memphis Aug. 29 at the University of Memphis Rose Theater, 3795 Central Ave.

A technology-driven health care services company is opening a Memphis office that will employ nearly 400 people over the next few months.

Connexion Point, a Salt Lake City, Utah-based company that represents large insurance companies, will open a contact center at Nonconnah Corporate Center in Southwest Memphis.

WASHINGTON (AP) – Orders to U.S. factories rose in March for the first time since last July, breaking a long stretch of weakness in manufacturing.

Orders increased 2.1 percent following seven monthly declines, the Commerce Department reported Monday. And in further good news, orders in a key category that tracks business investment plans eked out a 0.1 percent rise. It was the first advance in this category since last August.
