24. Lyons Named Interim CEO Of Memphis Symphony -

Al Lyons has been tapped to serve as the interim CEO of the Memphis Symphony Orchestra.

He’ll serve in the position until a CEO search that’s now in progress is completed.

In addition to formerly working with the Bodine Co. as chief financial officer and president, Lyons has been involved as leader in arts organizations including the Memphis Brooks Museum of Art, where he served as interim director from 2007 to 2008 and was president of the board of trustees in 2010 and 2011.

Dr. Lyle Davis is the new director of education at The Bodine School effective June 4.

Davis will supervise teachers, monitor student growth and oversee curriculum at the Germantown school for students with learning disabilities.

Brad Bodine, who heads the credit products group for Cortview Capital Securities LLC, says growth in Memphis “is an important strategy” for the firm, which has been on a hiring streak around the country lately.

The Bodine School has named Josh Clark the new head of school in 2011 and beyond.

Bodine focuses exclusively on students with dyslexia, a neurologically based disorder that affects an individual’s ability to read and write.

Memphis Goodwill has been honored with the 2010 Business Champion Award by the Collierville Chamber of Commerce.

The award, which honors an outstanding business of the year, was handed out recently at the Chamber’s annual awards luncheon.

Literacy is a cherished cause for Memphian Tonya Eddins.

Lori Wakefield isn’t a geography teacher, but her classroom at The Bodine School in Germantown has been morphing into a 3D map for months. As an art teacher working with students who have reading difficulties, she said getting students to invest in their work means going far beyond paint and paper.

The Bodine School will host two Library Talk seminars Monday and April 23 titled “Is Your Child Struggling in School?”

The seminars will be hosted by Rene Friemoth Lee, the executive director of The Bodine School. They will address topics including understanding the demands of school, pinpointing the specific difficulties of children, identifying learning difficulties and understanding their impact on school and home, helping parents find the help they need, and describing survival strategies.
