TUPELO, Miss. (AP) – A Mississippi bank has won approval to complete mergers with Louisiana and Texas banks that were delayed for nearly four years.

BancorpSouth announced Wednesday that it intends to complete the acquisitions of Ouachita Independent Bank and First State Bank Central Texas by Jan. 15. The Tupelo-based bank says it finally been approved by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. and Mississippi banking regulators.

BancorpSouth earned $37.8 million in net income for the third quarter, up from $34.3 million during the third quarter of 2015, the bank has reported.

Among other highlights for the quarter, the bank generated deposit growth of $225.7 million and net loan growth of $82.8 million. It had no recorded provision for credit losses for the quarter, and it repurchased 551,519 shares of its common stock.

The county saw a 6 percent increase in the number of mortgages in the fourth quarter – 2,037, up from 1,922 during the year-ago period.

Logistics vendor Green Mountain Consulting wasn’t necessarily looking to buy an office building when it began its search for more office space for expansion.

“We’re not getting into the commercial real estate business because we wanted to be in it; we got into it because we have a company to operate and needed the space,” said Jim Jacobs, one of Green Mountain’s co-founders.

June 2014 was a better month for mortgage activity than the same month in 2013.
