1. Tesla Cuts 9 Pct. of Workforce in Bid to Post a Profit -

DETROIT (AP) – Electric car maker Tesla Inc. is laying off about 3,600 workers mainly from its salaried ranks as it slashes costs in an effort to deliver on CEO Elon Musk's promise to turn a profit in the second half of the year.

2. This week in Memphis history: February 21-27 -

2013: The Salvation Army Kroc Center opened at the Mid-South Fairgrounds.

1974: On the front page of The Daily News, Albertine McCrory developers announced a 1,500-home planned community at Interstate 40 and Whitten Road called Hillshire. The plans called for single-family homes, townhouse condominiums, garden apartments, duplexes and commercial areas as well as an office industrial park for an estimated 12,000 people or a community about the size of Parkway Village at the time.

3. Builder Permits Rise 10 Percent in November -

The National Association of Homebuilders said Tuesday, Dec. 18, that sentiment across the homebuilding industry rose to its highest level since the middle of 2006.

National housing permits in November posted a 26.8 percent increase from November 2011. And while they’re not up quite that much, local starts are seeing increases as well.

4. Hard Work, Sincerity Keep Albertine Thriving -

When Gary Albertine Sr. got into the real estate business in 1948, an average 1,500-square-foot house sold for about $15,000.

Contracts were one-page long, men dominated the industry and the eastern boundary of Memphis city limits was Goodlett Street. It was a simpler time, when business was based on trust and word of mouth.

5. NuVasive Files Permit To Renovate Facility -

NuVasive Inc. has filed a $1.6 million permit application with the city-county Office of Construction Code Enforcement to renovate its building at 4670 E. Shelby Drive in the Oakhaven/Village Parkway area.

Eleven lots and two homes in the Schilling Farms subdivision in Collierville have been sold to Regions Bank for $1.1 million in a substitute trustee’s sale. The owner of the properties is Albertine Co. LLC.
