The death toll in the East Tennessee wildfires goes to 10 Thursday as the recovery effort moves beyond a search for those missing. The count of buildings burned in Sevier County is estimated at more than 700 – 300 just in Gatlinburg. And 47 people are injured by the latest count. The count of those who died in the fires includes confirmation that Jon and Janet Summer of Memphis are among the dead recovered so far.

Three Memphis real estate companies with significant assets in the Poplar Avenue/Ridgeway Road area are making plans to improve connectivity and walkability there.

When ServiceMaster Global Holdings announced its move to the shuttered Peabody Place Mall from Ridge Lake office park, it promised new life for a 328,000-square-foot black hole in Downtown’s retail market.

The restaurant signed a lease for its debut location at 1350 Concourse Ave., Suite 137, with plans to open early next year.

Second- and third-tier retail markets are seeing a resurgence nationally, and Memphis’ own economic recovery is garnering attention from out-of-town retailers.

Are your lights on yet? How is your air conditioning? First came the rain Wednesday night and then came the power outages that stretched into Thursday.

So the last Twitter update from Memphis Light Gas and Water at 8 p.m. Thursday shows 248 outages in the MLGW service area with 2,746 customers still in the dark and the worst heat of the year so far. Those numbers translate to 95 percent of the customers impacted having their power restored Thursday evening.

Memphis City Council members approved an ordinance Tuesday, May 3, on the first of three readings to set boundaries in Overton Park including the use of the park Greensward.

But some council members who supported a March 1 resolution that gave the Memphis Zoo control of the greensward were much more hesitant about the ordinance two months later.

(AP) — Wal-Mart's decision to shutter 154 stores across the country means that, starting Thursday, residents without cars in a neighborhood near a historically black college outside Birmingham, Alabama, will have to cross dangerous roadways on foot to get fresh produce and meat. Come Friday, folks in Coal Hill, Arkansas, will need to drive 15 miles to get to the nearest supermarket and pharmacy. Low-income neighbors of Wichita State University in Kansas, too, will be losing quick access to fresh groceries.

Black Friday, taking place Nov. 27, is only a week away and local and national retailers are gearing up for the busiest day of the year.

The National Retail Federation predicts that 2015 will be a banner year for holiday shopping with sales in November and December expected to reach $630.5 billion, a 3.7 increase over 2014 and significantly higher than the 10-year average of 2.5 percent.

Dulgarian TN LLC purchased the 13,800-square-foot drugstore for $2.9 million on Nov. 4 and immediately signed a new lease with CVS 6304 LLC. Balmoral Shopping Center LLC, which sold the outparcel, has owned the greater 96,139-square-foot shopping center since 2001.

99. Retail Market Boosted by Groceries, Small Business -

The third quarter of 2015 was a busy one for the retail sector with a lot of activity derived from grocery stores and small businesses.

Fundamentals are trending favorably with the total vacancy rate down to 12.6 percent compared to 12.9 percent in second quarter 2015. Net absorption rose from 134,251 square feet in second quarter to 160,229 square feet in the most recent quarter, and the rental rate increased from $8.62 to $8.72 per square foot, according to CB Richard Ellis Memphis data.

100. Tanger Southaven Expected To Drive More DeSoto County Retail -

At its grand opening Nov. 20, Tanger Outlets Southaven mall will finally see light after years of development.

The project, which initially was developed by Memphis-based Poag Shopping Centers and shelved during the recession, was revived thanks to a relationship with national group Tanger Factory Outlet Centers Inc. and several public partnerships with DeSoto County and the state of Mississippi.
