Deeds related to New York-based Cerberus Capital Management’s purchase of more than 1,000 rental homes in Shelby County have been filed with the county Register’s Office.

Cerberus affiliate CSMA BLT LLC purchased 1,024 rental homes from BLTREJV3 Memphis LLC, an affiliate of BLT Homes, for a combined $83.6 million, according to five Aug. 31 special warranty deeds.

When New York-based Cerberus Capital Management closed Aug. 31 on its $440 million acquisition of 4,200 rental homes in five states – including 1,032 in Shelby County – it demonstrated a trend in local real estate.

5. Bill to Do Away With Tennessee Helmet Requirement Shelved -

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) – A proposal to do away with Tennessee's motorcycle helmet requirement has been shelved for the year.

The bill sponsored by Republican Rep. Jay Reedy of Erin was deferred on Tuesday until the first calendar of next year's legislative session.

6. AAA Fights to Keep Helmet Law in Tennessee -

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) – AAA motor club wants to put the brakes on proposed legislation that would allow many motorcyclists to ride without a helmet.

Currently, Tennessee law requires all motorcyclists to wear a helmet. But a bill that will be going to committee on Tuesday would allow anyone who is 21 or over who has health coverage, as long as it's not through TennCare, to be able to legally ride without a helmet.

19. Seasoned Investor Acquires 41 Properties -

Real estate investor Jim Reedy needed only one day to acquire $2.4 million worth of investment properties, beefing up his already extensive portfolio.

Reddoch Management LLC, the business that Reedy and his wife, Debi, established two years ago, has bought 41 multifamily and single-family properties throughout the city from Roy Adams, who had chosen to unload his holdings and get out of the real estate gig. The deals all closed March 19.
