7. Five Below Store Coming to Bartlett Towne Center -

A store that’s hot in the market for selling “hot,’’ trendy products for $5 or less to teens and tweens is coming to Bartlett.

Five Below has signed a lease for 8,680 square feet in Bartlett Towne Center at the southeast corner of Stage and Bartlett Boulevard, according to the Memphis office of The Shopping Center Group.

NEW YORK (AP) — Amazon on Tuesday became the second publicly traded company to be worth $1 trillion, hot on the heels of iPhone maker Apple.

In its two decades, the company has expanded far beyond those bookseller beginnings, combining its world-spanning retail operations with less flashy but very profitable advertising and cloud computing businesses. LONDON (AP) — Coca-Cola is hoping for a caffeine-fueled boost with the acquisition of British coffee chain Costa.

The soda giant said Friday it is spending $5.1 billion in cash for Britain's biggest coffee company. Costa has more than 2,400 coffee shops in the U.K. and 1,400 others in more than 30 countries, including around 460 in China, its second-biggest market.

30. Growing Medical Device Company Expands in Memphis Again -

A fast-growing company that provides logistics for medical-device firms is more than tripling the size of its Memphis operation just two years after making Memphis its flagship for North America.

A building permit application was submitted late last week to renovate 110,000 square feet of warehouse space at 4049 Willow Lake for HealthLink Europe & International. The cost is estimated at $930,000.

CINCINNATI (AP) — The nation's largest grocery chain has begun to phase out the use of plastic bags as more Americans grow uncomfortable with their impact on the environment.

Kroger Co. will start Thursday at its QFC stores in and around Seattle, with the goal of using no plastic bags at those stores at some point next year. The company said it will be plastic-bag free at all of its nearly 2,800 stores by 2025.

38. Australian Company Nufarm to Open $20M Mississippi Plant -

GREENVILLE, Miss. (AP) — An Australian farm chemical and seed company will open a distribution facility in Mississippi, investing $20 million and hiring 68 people.

Nufarm Ltd. said Tuesday that it was buying a building from the city of Greenville for the site, with plans to begin operations in summer 2019. Mississippi Development Authority spokeswoman Tammy Craft says Nufarm will repackage and ship products sent to Greenville from other facilities.

58. Brookstone Files for Ch.11 Bankruptcy Protection Again -

Brookstone, the ubiquitous seller of cool but largely unneeded things, has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection again and will close the 101 of its stores that are located in malls.

Malls have suffered for years due to far-reaching shifts in the way that Americans shop for just about everything, which has diminished foot traffic at Brookstone. On Thursday, CEO Piau Phang Foo called the situation in malls "extremely challenging," and thanked employees who had staffed stores in those locations.

66. Mueller Industries’ Profits Climb in Second Quarter -

Mueller Industries Inc. recorded a second-quarter profit of $33.2 million, or 58 cents per diluted share, the Memphis-based company announced Tuesday, July 24.

Profit is up by about 20 percent compared to last year’s second quarter, when the industrial manufacturer of copper and copper alloy reported a profit of $27.6 million, or 48 cents per diluted share.

NEW YORK (AP) – Can a machine that dispenses water for free also turn into a cash stream for Coca-Cola?

The world's largest soda maker is testing a fountain that lets people fill reusable water bottles with free, filtered water – but also offers the option of paying to add bubbles and fruity flavors. The drugmaker said Tuesday that the IPO will represent an ownership stake of less than 20 percent. Lilly said it will divest its remaining stake in Elanco Animal Health through a tax-efficient deal, but offered no other details.

NORWALK, Conn. (AP) – Pepperidge Farm is voluntarily recalling four varieties of Goldfish Crackers because of fears they could potentially have salmonella.

The company on Monday took the action after one of its ingredient suppliers notified it that whey powder used in a seasoning may be contaminated. The products were distributed in the United States and no illnesses have been reported.
