To no one’s surprise the legal skirmish over Confederate monuments is on its way to the Tennessee Court of Appeals. Sons of Confederate Veterans and the Forrest family filed notice Thursday of their appeal of the Davidson County Chancery Court ruling of last week holding that the city of Memphis broke no laws in selling two parks, including the monuments in them, to a private nonprofit which then had the monuments removed.

New Maciel’s Concept Coming to Broad Avenue District -

A new Maciel’s location is in the works, coming to the site behind Rec Room on Broad Avenue that previously housed French Truck Coffee.
Set to open on April 2, it will be something of a twist on the Maciel’s concept – called Maciel’s Bodega – and smaller than the Maciel’s Highland restaurant that just opened in February. Rather than a third full-fledged Maciel’s, which also has restaurants Downtown and in the University of Memphis area, Maciel’s Bodega will be more like a location number 2.5 for the brand.

Two of the developers of Loflin Yard are planning to restore another vacant lot in the South Main Arts District into an indoor/outdoor bar and restaurant using repurposed metal grain silos.
Owner Brad Barnett and developer Mac Hopper took their plans to repurpose a vacant, overgrown 15,000-square-foot lot at 141 E. Carolina Ave. and an existing building across the street at 134 E. Carolina Ave. to the Center City Development Corp. Wednesday where they were granted a $57,550 Exterior Improvement Grant to assist with outdoor renovations.
