The Louisiana-based bank filed a $750,000 building permit in April for 2504 Poplar Ave., where Iberiabank Tennessee market president Greg Smithers said a standalone branch is planned. Set to open in the fourth quarter, it will mark the bank’s eighth branch in the Memphis area, not counting 10 other offsite ATMs included in the bank’s Memphis footprint.

LAFAYETTE, La. (AP) — Iberiabank Corp.'s second-quarter profit dropped 41 percent as the regional banker sustained one-time expenses to complete two acquisitions, the company reported.

Scarce new development is providing the retail sector the opportunity to rethink how it delivers its goods and services, moving away from car-dependent models and toward walkable urban centers.

This mixed-use, walkable neighborhood concept is something Memphis will see more and more of, especially in the urban core, said Jason Polley, project leasing director for Stonecrest Investments LLC.

First Tennessee Trust Department has bought the 48,085-square-foot auto dealership formerly known as Cadillac SAAB of Memphis, 7727 U.S. 64, for $4 million.

While many real estate agents advise homebuyers to address a home’s problems before closing on it, the Federal Housing Administration has a different approach.

As an alternative to conventional financing, the FHA offers a chance for buyers to obtain only one mortgage loan, at a long-term fixed or adjustable rate, to acquire and rehab the property.

Developers are bringing a brand of apartments that has flourished on Downtown’s Main Street one block over with a $9.7 million project called Van Vleet Flats and Offices.

An extensive rehab has begun on the old warehouse at 109 S. Second St., at the northwest corner of Second Street and Gayoso Avenue.

IberiaBank is moving its Memphis market headquarters to 4894 Poplar Ave., spending more than $2 million to renovate the building and filling about half the building. The remaining space will be available for future bank expansion and leasing opportunities.

DALLAS (AP) - The U.S. Transportation Department on Friday granted Continental Airlines Inc. immunity from antitrust laws, allowing it to work closely with a group of other carriers, including United Airlines, on international service.

58. Bill Would Limit Antitrust Immunity for Airlines -

WASHINGTON (AP) - The chairman of a House committee overseeing airlines says it should be harder for carriers to work together on setting prices and schedules.

Rep. James Oberstar, D-Minn., introduced legislation late Tuesday to raise standards for granting antitrust immunity to airlines. He said competition among carriers is declining, resulting in higher fares, especially on routes between the United States and Europe.
