Memphis’ office and industrial markets saw strong second quarters, with increased absorption and positive outlooks for the rest of the year.

The quarter was dominated by ServiceMaster Global Holdings’ announcement that it was moving its headquarters from East Memphis to the shuttered Peabody Place mall. The home services and tech company will transform the former mall into a $27 million, Class A office building.

Boyle Investment Co. is wrapping up construction on a critical corner of Schilling Farms that will bring more retail and encourage more office users to consider the development. The three adjacent projects fill in the southern quadrant of Schilling Boulevard and Winchester Road, a small part of the sprawling 443-acre, city-within-a-city in Collierville.

Construction is nearing completion on several new projects at Schilling Farms on an 11-acre site at the corner of Schilling and Winchester boulevards.

Two agribusiness companies have cut the ribbon on their respective facilities at Agricenter International where they are making investments totaling almost $20 million.

Executives from Bayer CropScience and Helena Chemical were on hand at the Agricenter Monday, April 1, to give a sneak peek at the plans for both facilities, which include a new laboratory and greenhouse facilities. Officials on hand for the announcement included Shelby County Mayor Mark Luttrell and Memphis Mayor A C Wharton Jr., and at least one economic development official on hand noted informally that the Agricenter is well on the way toward becoming a major agribusiness hub.

41. Record Cotton Yield Possible in Northeast Arkansas -

JONESBORO, Ark. (AP) – The weekend rainfall caused a leap in the majority of northeast Arkansas' cotton crop, University of Arkansas Extension Service officials say.

"We saw a few problems early with some cool temperatures and a few insect problems, but over the past few days the crop has really improved," said Clay County Extension Staff Chairman Andy Vangilder. "Cotton is doing well. It is squaring early. And if everything plays out right I think we're getting ready for not only an early cotton harvest, but possibly record yields.

Since coming to Baptist in 1987, Pounds has served in a variety of roles, starting as chief financial officer at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Union County.

Jeshahnton “Shaun” Essex has been named assistant administrator at Methodist University Hospital.

Essex will be responsible for environmental services, mail services, food and nutrition services, laboratory, radiology and facility and engineering services. Essex has served as assistant administrator at Methodist North Hospital the past four years.

47. 'Cautious Optimism' Permeates Industrial Market -

After a few dark years followed by a tentative climb, the Memphis-area industrial development market is creeping further into the light.

With net absorption reaching about 5 million square feet in 2005 and on track for similar growth in 2006, developers are holding out hope that last year's market turnaround could have staying power, said Jim Mercer, executive vice president of CB Richard Ellis Memphis.
