A Bartlett-based medical device manufacturer is expanding with a $10.5 million investment that will create 40 jobs.
Engineered Medical Systems LLC plans to add 57,000 square feet of manufacturing and office space to its existing 47,500-square-foot facility at 3325 Appling Road, where it makes surgical instruments, implants and other specialty medical devices.

“I always liked building things and working with my hands,” Josh Herwig muses, holding out a prototype of the medical device he’s designed and engineered.
Now chief technology officer of SOMAVAC Medical Solutions, Herwig continuously gravitated toward science. Talking with a visitor to the SOMAVAC offices (housed within the Memphis Bioworks Foundation building, in the Medical District), Herwig recalls the steps that brought him here. The son of a particle physicist – his father has worked at Oak Ridge and Argonne National Laboratories – Herwig grew up fascinated by the possibilities and magic of science.

FedEx Supply Chain Ramps Up New Medical Distribution Warehouse -

FedEx Supply Chain, formerly known as Genco, is ramping up activity at its 1.1 million-square-foot multitenant distribution warehouse on East Holmes Road. Memphis-based FedEx Corp. acquired Genco, a third-party logistics provider, for $1.4 billion in early 2015 and announced a network expansion last October.
