American Airlines, for example, will soon make its cheapest "basic economy" tickets less unforgiving by letting buyers stow a rolling bag in the overhead bin like all other passengers, but restrictions like boarding the plane last and not being able to pick seats until 48 hours before the flight will remain in place. The Department of Transportation said Monday that 84.5 percent of flights on the largest 12 U.S. airlines arrived on time during April, better than the previous month and up from 81.8 percent in April 2015.

The Shelby County district attorney's office said Friday that 28-year-old Rachel Trevor has been indicted on charges including theft, unlawful sale of alcohol and unauthorized transportation of alcohol.

Alaska Airlines and JetBlue Airways still rank highest in the annual J.D. Power survey of passengers on the nine largest North American airlines, and the firm says overall traveler satisfaction with the industry is at a 10-year high.

One of the last remaining hotels near Memphis International Airport has sold in foreclosure for the second time in less than five years.

Chuck Pinkowski, a local hotel consultant with Pinkowski & Co., said that a multimillion-dollar renovation couldn’t save the Holiday Inn from a declining hotel market.

There was a palpable frustration at City Hall during Tuesday’s council day that featured a light agenda but lots of attention to several challenges – many of them financial and hidden until recently – that the new mayor and council are facing.
As we mentioned in our Monday evening coverage of this, the skirmish lines over the deannexation bill and the larger issue are very close in Shelby County. Our legislative delegation is split between Memphis Democrats vocal in their outrage over the bill and Republicans in the county outside Memphis who are just as vehement in their support of the bill, especially the parts that apply to Memphis.
