WASHINGTON (AP) – Home construction plunged last month to the lowest level since October as the economy remained weak and demand for housing plummeted.
But driving the June decline was a more than 20 percent drop in condominium and apartment construction, which makes up a small but volatile portion of the housing market. Construction of single-family homes, the largest part of the market, was down slightly. It dropped 0.7 percent.

Crowd control problems at the Malco Paradiso movie theater have led to a broader discussion about development in East Memphis, including the theater and a number of thriving businesses.
The locally owned movie theater chain Friday began implementing new policies essentially banning children at the Paradiso after 6 p.m. because of a mob of unruly teenagers in the parking lot the previous weekend. And Memphis police had a more visible presence around the theater during the Labor Day holiday.

Memphis-based Commercial Alliance Management LLC has been tapped to handle all new leases for a Downtown office portfolio that includes the Morgan Keegan Tower, Falls Building and Toyota Center.
Those buildings are owned by Jackson, Miss.-based Parkway Properties Inc., a real estate investment trust (REIT) that had contracted last fall with Trammell Crow Co. to lease the properties.
