10. Greenhouse Donated to Urban Farms -

Stringer Nursery and Garden Center has donated its 23,000-square-foot greenhouse to Urban Farms in Binghampton. The greenhouse was scheduled to be disassembled and transported to the Urban Farms’ location on 198 Wills St. Saturday, July 16, according to Urban Farms’ Facebook page. Barnhart Crane and Rigging provided equipment to help volunteers and project management move the greenhouse to its new location.

Barnhart Real Estate LLC has bought land at 1701 Dunn Ave. in the Defense Depot from The Depot Redevelopment Corp. of Memphis and Shelby County for $1.4 million.

14. ALBA Enhances Airport Gateway -

As Bluff City officials continue to push the aerotropolis effort, the Airways Lamar Business Association is doing its part to improve the area just north of Memphis International Airport.

Spearheading that improvement effort is Trennie Williams, who is celebrating two years as president and CEO of the association, a nonprofit alliance of business and community leaders working to strengthen, redevelop and beautify the Airways Boulevard, Lamar Avenue and Park Avenue corridors.

15. Hope Foundation Sees Significant Donation Boost -

The Hope Christian Community Foundation is celebrating Thanksgiving early with prayers of gratitude for the spirit of giving in Memphis, which has not faltered despite a prolonged recession.

The largest Christian community foundation in the United States, it has assets of about $55 million, but its strategy is to share that wealth rather than build endowments. It is on track to break records in 2009. For the first nine months of this year, the foundation has received $24 million, an increase of 18 percent from the same period a year ago.
