Bob Smith’s testimony was a good part of the first day of the nonjury trial that began Monday before Memphis Federal Court Judge Jon McCalla on police surveillance of protesters. Smith was the alias used by Police Sgt. Tim Reynolds – Reynolds acknowledged during his testimony Monday Downtown. The identity was also used by several other officers.

2. Last Word: Juvenile Court Return, Berlin Boyd's Week and Tony Allen Thoughts -

Two weeks ago Juvenile Court Judge Dan Michael was on Behind The Headlines in a half-hour conversation about the court and federal oversight that drew quite a bit of reaction to Michael’s strong opinions about the need to end that oversight. Even before that reaction we had planned to do a second part of the conversation with those who favor continued federal oversight of the court.

3. Shaw Lends a Little Of His Courage to Titans -

There were more than a few missteps and miscues by the Tennessee Titans in Sunday’s season-opening loss to the Oakland Raiders.

But there was at least one thing that the Titans got absolutely right on Sunday and for the 2017 season.

4. Bolding is Only Tennessean to Teach at 2015 NeighborWorks Institute -

Tim Bolding, executive director of United Housing Inc., is the only Tennessean selected to teach at NeighborWorks America’s 2015 NeighborWorks Training Institute. Bolding has taught coursework at the training institutes, which focus on providing high-quality training to nonprofit housing professionals, for more than 10 years.

12. Some Balk at Proposal for 8th State Song in Tenn. -

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - For a state known for its songwriters, it might not come as a surprise that Tennessee has seven state songs.

But some lawmakers are balking at a proposal for an eighth, called "So I'll Just Shine in Tennessee (I'm a Jackson, Tennessee Nugget)." The song is written by Brenda Monroe-Moses, a former city councilwoman in Jackson, and Mildred Lewis Atkins.

13. Hampton Hotels Names Smith Senior Director of Product Service -

Kurt Smith has been named senior director of product service and development at Hampton Hotels. Previously, Smith served Hampton as director of global brand integration. Prior to that position, he was the director of hotel performance support.
