House Committee Postpones Action on Short-Term Rentals -

A day after the House targeted Nashville with a tough bill on short-term rentals, the Senate deferred action on legislation blocking the Metro Council from enacting any prohibitions.
The Senate Finance, Ways and Means Committee postponed a bill by Sen. John Stevens until January 2018, ending the debate this year on a measure singling out Davidson County efforts to restrict short-term rentals such as Airbnb.

Sheriff’s Office Volunteer Rewarded With Family Day of Fun -

A Memphis-area business owner was treated to a family day of fun on Friday for his volunteer work with the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office.
Steve Buchanan, who owns Streamline Security Co., has dedicated 4,386 volunteer hours over the past four years to serving the sheriff’s office through his roles in emergency services, the reserve division and the special response unit. This year, Buchanan was promoted to the rank of sergeant and added to the command staff for emergency services. He also was selected to be a member of the Special Response Unit, an arm of the search and rescue team that is elected for specific assignments.

Opry House Stripped to Foundation for Repairs -

The Grand Ole Opry House has been stripped to its concrete foundation as workers try to repair damage from flooding about two weeks ago.
The stage, including a historic 6-foot circle of floorboards from the old Ryman Auditorium stage, has been removed along with pews that served as seats on the house floor. That Ryman wood is considered the heart of country music by some and its status as it sat under 4 feet of water was a big concern for country music stars and fans.

There’s no doubt 2010 will go down as a watershed year for the Wolf River Greenway, the $28 million, 22-mile nature corridor that traces the Wolf River from Memphis’ eastern border to Downtown.
The team responsible for giving life to the Greenway – the city parks department, the Wolf River Conservancy and the Hyde Family Foundations – has achieved a pair of key milestones, both of which are being celebrated as the jumpstart this project sorely needed.
