1. Last Word: Mason Temple 50 Years Later, Medical Pot Dies in Nashville and Fire -

Mason Temple still looks pretty much the same as it did in 1968 when Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. came there to give what would be his last speech – the Mountaintop speech – the night before his assassination. Tuesday evening, 50 years to the day that King gave that speech, the Church of God In Christ sanctuary was awash and aglow in multi-colored lights as a capacity invitation-only crowd gathered to mark the occasion.

2. Perry Leading Fire Museum Forward as Executive Director -

Shannon Perry became executive director of the Fire Museum of Memphis earlier this year, a role that brings her back to the institution she helped launch in the 1990s, when she served as its first curator. As executive director, Perry is the Fire Museum’s only full-time employee, and she handles a range of functions – including its collection, exhibits and facilities, budgets, fundraising, public relations, special events, staff and volunteers – while also working directly with the museum’s board.

4. Preseason Analysis: Vols Will Defeat Oklahoma, Finish 8-4 -

Tennessee’s football team has something to prove as it concludes the first week of preseason practices and moves forward to the 2015 season.

The Vols must prove they belong in the national picture in Butch Jones’ third year as coach.

5. Events -

The Rotary Club of Memphis Central will meet Friday, Aug. 12, from 11:45 p.m. to 1 p.m. at the Holiday Inn University of Memphis, 3700 Central Ave. Dee Floyd, community development manager, Methodist Le Bonheur Healthcare, will speak about its hospice. 6. Crye-Leike's Truong Receives Broker's License -

The Tennessee Real Estate Commission (TREC) has announced that David N. Truong from Crye-Leike's Quail Hollow office, 6525 Quail Hollow Road, has successfully passed the real estate broker licensure exam and has received his broker's license. Truong completed strict experience and education requirements, including 120 classroom hours of real estate education. He has been a real estate agent for four years in and around Shelby and DeSoto counties, where he specializes in all areas of real estate sales.
